The lineage is an unnamed American variety (seeds were packed in a “Martha Stewart USA” packet) crossed with Stara Babcina Malinówka (a famous Polish heirloom meaning “Old Grandmother’s Pink”).

🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate. The breeder notes this is perhaps her least problematic and most prolific cross, setting fruit reliably.

🍅 Fruit Characteristics: This specific line is the Red version (Czerwony / Червонный). The fruits can vary slightly in shape from ribbed to smooth, and from oblate (flattened) to round. They have an excellent shelf life after picking. A notable trait is that the skin peels off effortlessly when fully ripe.

👅 Flavor & Texture: Extremely juicy and very sweet. The breeder personally rates its flavor even higher than the highly acclaimed Kozula 37.

🧬 Segregation Note: As a developing cross, the F-generations split into two distinct lines: Red and Pink (Malinowy). Both are incredibly tasty, and growers are encouraged to save seeds from the best-performing versions.

🍅 Grown this variety? Click here to add your own photos and review below!

A

Angelina (Angelina) ⭐ Pro Grower (11,078 posts)

Ela 09 Red (Ela 09, Martha Stewart USA x Stara Babcina Malinówka)

Here is the description from Ela, the breeder of the variety:

A dream tomato, next year there will be more bushes in my garden. Juicy, sweet! After picking, it stored for quite a long time; towards the end it softened a bit, and the skin peels off by itself — you just need to pry it slightly. To me, it’s probably even better than Kozula 37…

The seeds come from the USA, they are signed by Martha Stewart, have no name as such, and were packaged as you can see in the photo. I used this tomato for a cross with Stara Babcina Malinówka. The E09 cross mostly takes on the traits of this American tomato. It segregated into 2 varieties: red and pink, both are tasty.

This is probably my best, most prolific, tastiest, and least problematic cross. All versions are delicious and grow without issues. The fruits are more or less ribbed, some flat (oblate) and some more rounded, very sweet.

Now just select the best versions and continue growing them.

Edited November 12, 2023 by Drosera

Quick Summary of Ela 09 Red (Czerwony) 🌍 Origin: A fascinating Polish breeding line created by Ela.
