The name translates to “Tarasenko’s Jubilee”.

🌿 Plant Habit: A tall, vigorous indeterminate that easily reaches 2 meters (6.5 ft). The defining feature of the Tarasenko lines is their Multiflora (Mega-Truss) genetics. A single truss blooms like a bouquet of lilacs, producing up to 50-300 flowers, though not all will set fruit.

🏗️ Support Required: Because the trusses get so incredibly heavy, standard tying is not enough. Growers joke that you need to pour concrete pillars for this variety! You must physically support the fruit trusses with crates, hooks, or slings to prevent them from snapping off the vine.

🍅 The Strain Controversy: As discussed in this thread, there is massive confusion in the commercial seed market. The true Yubileyniy Tarasenko should technically be round. However, most commercial seed packets (and private collections) circulate a version with a pointed “beak” or nipple. Purists argue that the beaked version is actually Gibrid-2 Tarasenko (Tarasenko Hybrid 2). Both are phenomenal multiflora types.

👅 Culinary Use: While good fresh, these 60-100g (2-3.5 oz) tomatoes are considered the absolute gold standard for whole-canning and cold fermentation (Russian pickling). Their density prevents them from becoming too salty or mushy even a year after canning.

🍅 Grown this variety? Click here to add your own photos and review below!

S

Sweet (Svetlana) ⭐ Pro Grower (8,792 posts)

📍 Belgorod Region, Russia (USDA Zone 5)

Description from the seed packet:
A popular mid-season variety of amateur breeding. They are round-heart-shaped with a pointed conical tip, weighing 60g (2.1 oz). Average yield is 35 kg (77 lbs) from one plant, about 3 kg (6.6 lbs) per truss. Used fresh and for canning.
