The base color is a warm pink, heavily splashed with dark purple\/black anthocyanin on the shoulders. The tomatoes are unusually beautiful \ud83d\udc4d \ud83d\udc4d \ud83d\udc4d, probably the most beautiful variety I got this season. The color \u2014 I don&#8217;t even know how to describe it: blue-pink. The bottom is an unusually warm pink color, transitioning into blue-purple splashes, and then into a solid purple on the shoulders. Basically \u2014 not just a variety, but a true jewel. For me, this indeterminate wasn&#8217;t very tall. At first, it grew in Open Ground, then I transplanted it into the greenhouse in July. In the greenhouse, it grew to 1.2 meters (4 ft). And I planted the seeds late \u2014 in early May (because I had to resow). But regarding <em>Amethyst Jewel<\/em>, it is clearly stated that the variety is still unstable, and not all fruits have anthocyanin-pink coloring. Two bushes were tall with red fruits. Their taste was sweet. One bush turned out medium height and produced blue fruits with pink streaks. For some reason, it is paler, not as dark.<br \/>\nThe bushes (I had 2) were 1.20-1.30m (4 ft) tall, planted out in late April, grew them in three stems. They started ripening at the end of July, photos from August 5.<br \/>\nPulled them out on Sunday. Yield is medium, they grew gradually, about 4 per cluster. Weight is somewhere around 100-200g (3.5-7 oz).<br \/>\nI kept hiding them from the sun all the time, but with mixed success. They are similar, but for me, Siberian Tiger was a scrawny weakling as a seedling. I had to nurse it back to health and even planted 2 bushes in one hole. Then they leveled out. The taste is good. And when cut, it has a beautiful dark pink color. Very tasty if fully ripe. I have a bush growing in the greenhouse and another bush (it was a weakling as a seedling) I planted in Open Ground without any cover.<\/p>\n<p>So, the one in Open Ground already had dark shoulders at the early fruiting stage. At first, I was even scared that some disease had hit the bush. Now it is completely some kind of black-purple color and of course it&#8217;s not tall, less than a meter (3.3 ft). But the one in the greenhouse grew to the ceiling, I lowered it, it has lots of fruits, their shoulders are blue-purple with green veins, it&#8217;s clearly unripe.<\/p>\n<p>My question is: when do I pick the one in Open Ground? And I should probably take seeds from the greenhouse one, although the first 2 tomatoes in Open Ground are larger. It is possible that in Open Ground the variety is even better adapted to adverse conditions. You can determine fruit ripeness by the softness of the fruit; a ripe one is not hard. Plus, redness will appear on the bottom and sides. You&#8217;ll know immediately. It is the only variety we have planted for the fifth year in a row.<\/p>\n<p>I lead it into 3-4 stems, it can handle it. I like this method of pruning because it doesn&#8217;t hit the greenhouse roof as fast, and it seemed to produce more. True, the fruits get smaller, about 100-200 g (3.5-7 oz), but they ripen faster. We get to taste it among the very first. And the clusters it forms are very beautiful!<\/p>\n<p>It is a strong and resilient plant, almost never gets sick. It requires very little pruning, doesn&#8217;t get overly bushy with foliage. But what I like is that the stem and trusses are very sturdy. I noticed that on the south side near the greenhouse door, it didn&#8217;t set everything and skipped some blossoms. But when I planted it in the second row, also near the door but on the north side \u2014 it felt great there. It had enough light, but wasn&#8217;t in direct roasting sun, and it was well-ventilated.<\/p>\n<p>The main flavor has fruity notes, but delicate. My husband loves it because it has a tangy kick and juice with seeds inside the locules. But honestly, they can be a bit bland sometimes. The taste can change, probably like with all plants. It will always have the best spot in my garden. Three years ago, Late Blight (Phytophthora) killed almost all of my tomatoes. Only Amethyst Jewel and <em>Broken Heart<\/em> grew beautifully, ripening without any chemical treatments right in the middle of a tomato graveyard, completely shrugging off the Late Blight.<\/p>\n<p>In Open Ground, the bushes are about 1m (3.3 ft). It easily handles 2-3 stems, I suspect even 4. Fruits range from 50g (1.7 oz) at the top to 350g (12 oz). In extreme heat, it doesn&#8217;t set everything. If it sets only 1-2 flowers in a cluster, those fruits reach 300g (10.5 oz).<\/p>\n<p>The taste is wonderful. Differs from many others. The texture is excellent. Juicy, not watery. Handles transportation well. I grew it right next to <em>Pink Siberian Tiger<\/em>, which looks visually very similar. I wanted to compare them side-by-side. In terms of taste and fruit size, Amethyst Jewel definitely beat it. I included it in my Top-10 list for this year.<\/p>\n<p>The fruits are quite uniform and beautiful. My husband gave them a really heavy watering for me once, and a portion of the tomatoes cracked. Other than that, there was zero hassle with this variety.
