So I decided to write up this little review I promised earlier…

Since throughout the summer I only ate the most delicious cherry tomatoes and gave the rest away, I only occasionally tried the ones I liked less, hoping that maybe one of them would improve its flavor. Overall, my opinion on most of them hasn’t changed.
The only exception was one…

Yasik

This one gave me mixed feelings. Throughout the season, its flavor didn’t impress me much. It noticeably lacked the bright taste and intense sweetness of varieties like Summer Sun, Blush, Sweet Cream, Yellow Taste of Tomato, and Forte Rose, which I mainly snacked on all summer. But the taste of Yasik’s berries from the final harvest completely blew my mind. I was wrong to ignore it! It is just an explosion of flavor! The sweetness is incredibly, cloyingly sweet. Even among fruits, I can’t think of anything with such intense sweetness; only dried fruits are sweeter. Today, after eating Yasik, I ate some huge green grapes, and they tasted bland to me, even though yesterday I thought they were very sweet.
Because I stopped paying attention to Yasik and didn’t harvest it, many of the tomatoes cracked on the vine, and the cracks molded over time. However, some fruits sun-dried right on the vine without cracking, becoming insanely sweet. Apparently, my watering was critically uneven for Yasik—they either split from excess moisture or dried up from drought.

Forte Rose

This was the very first one to ripen. A strange, contradictory, and unpredictable fellow. The taste is unstable and changed throughout the season, but it was never bland. At different times, it could be very sweet (the first ripe fruits), then suddenly a bright acidity would appear against the rich sweetness (mostly mid-summer), and sometimes the sweetness diminished, letting the acid dominate (oddly enough, it was very tart at the end of the season). Among the round cherry varieties, this is the largest. The plant has sparse foliage and grows over 2 meters (6.5 ft) tall.

Throughout the entire season, the tastiest and sweetest were Summer Sun F1, Blush (Redko strain), Sweet Cream, and Yellow Taste of Tomato.

Summer Sun F1

The sweetness is very fruity, sometimes even becoming complex and rich, with practically no noticeable acidity. Blush often competed with it in sweetness, stepping right on its heels. However, because Blush has a noticeable touch of acidity (unlike Summer Sun), Summer Sun still registered as the sweeter tomato overall. Only at the end of the season were they both overshadowed by Yasik.

Out of all my cherry tomatoes, Summer Sun had the thinnest skin. Some fruits split in the clusters, but they didn’t start rotting along the cracks nearly as fast as Yasik, Tiger Eye, or Choco Baby. The fruits look like chubby grapes with a little point, comparable in size to Blush. The skin isn’t very thick, but you still feel it a bit. I didn’t find a single cracked fruit on it. The flesh is meaty with medium juiciness.

Orange Keys

Of all my cherries, this one had the largest fruits, but unfortunately, the lowest level of sweetness. It lacked any acidity throughout the season, so the flavor was quite dull and somewhat bland. It was the tallest and most vigorous plant, growing well over 2 meters (6.5 ft).

Cherry from Yuri

A one-dimensional, moderately sweet flavor with no acid, not very rich. Instead, the flesh turns watery, and they turn into soft, inedible liquid-filled sacs surrounded by skin. In some overripe ones, a clear carrot aftertaste emerged (likely high carotene content).
