The name translates to “Brave General”.

🌿 Plant Habit: A compact, short indeterminate. It is very well-behaved and doesn’t require aggressive pruning. Because of its neat, contained growth habit, many growers successfully plant it “two to a hole” (two plants per planting hole).

🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, smooth, pink oblate beefsteaks. They can get quite large, typically weighing 12-18 oz (350-500g), and the plant consistently produces large fruits without throwing out small “runts”.

👅 Flavor: Very good, classic balanced tomato flavor.

⏳ Yield & Growing Traits: Rated as an early to mid-early variety depending on your climate. It is highly praised for being extremely low-maintenance, very disease-resistant, and cold-tolerant. However, because it sets such heavy, large fruits early on, it requires good feeding; otherwise, the fruits can drain all the energy from the bush, shortening its fruiting season.

🍅 Grown this variety? Click here to add your own photos and review below!

G

garnet (Svetlana) 🌱 Member (436 posts)

📍 Northwestern Siberia (USDA Zone 3)

One of my absolute favorites 👍 because it’s so incredibly low-maintenance! An Altai variety. Early, perfect for the North-West region. Handles cold climates perfectly, didn’t get sick at all, and I didn’t even prune the suckers.

The fruits are large, slightly boat-shaped beefsteaks up to 12 oz (350g). The bush is not very tall and stays very neat and compact. You can easily plant them 2 per hole. Grew it outdoors in open ground, and there were no small runts at all.

I didn’t feed it, but I definitely should have. Toward the end, those large fruits just sucked all the life and energy right out of the plant. Maybe that’s why the fruiting period wasn’t very prolonged for me.

P

Plena (Elena) ⭐ Pro Grower (9,237 posts)

📍 Solnechnogorsk, Moscow Region (USDA Zone 4)

Generally, the description says it’s a mid-early, not an early variety.

T

tomatinka (Vera) ⭐ Pro Grower (14,911 posts)

📍 Tyumen Region, Siberia (USDA Zone 3)

Excellent variety!
