Note: Seed companies sometimes sell them under slightly different names, and it is often compared to the famous Japanese Black Trifele.

🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (though some commercial strains act semi-determinate). Very vigorous. Important Note on Leaf Type: There is massive variation depending on the seed vendor. The original and most prized heirloom strains feature Potato Leaf (PL) foliage, but many commercial packets (like Gavrish) yield Regular Leaf (RL) plants. Both produce excellent fruit.

🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Pear or truffle-shaped fruits ranging from mahogany to dark brown/purple. Weight varies wildly from 50g up to 300g (1.7 to 10.5 oz). They have no green shoulders when fully ripe and lack a tough white core inside. The flesh is often described as “marmalade-like” or jammy.

👅 Flavor & Storage: Extremely well-regarded flavor—sweet, slightly tart, with a unique hint of saltiness. They are different, very similar in shape, both have excellent yield, BUT Wine Jug has a purple tint, while Black Pear has a brown one, and the pear is sweeter. This year I planted it next to a bush of Marmalade Lightbulb (Marmeladnaya Lampochka), absolutely identical. But I wrote right away in this thread that my original seeds were from Aelita, the little pear grows from 100 to 300 grams (the longer I save and grow it, the larger it gets) and the taste is inherently sweet, the flesh is soft and buttery.
