Yes, the name is intentionally provocative, and many growers admit to buying it purely for the novelty of having “Viagra” in their garden!

🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall), growing into a massive, vigorous vine that can easily reach 10 ft (3 m) in a greenhouse. Known for being highly disease-resistant, particularly against Late Blight (Phytophthora).

🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Officially, it is supposed to be a medium-sized dark/mahogany tomato weighing around 3.5-4 oz (100-110 g). However, as seen in this thread, Gavrish’s seed lines can be unstable—some growers report getting massive 10.5 oz (300 g) beefsteaks from the same packets.

👅 Flavor: Highly debated! Some growers praise it as a solid, juicy slicer with a nice tangy bite. Others complain it tastes completely bland (“like grass”). It is generally agreed that it needs to fully ripen on the vine to develop any real flavor.

🍅 Grown the Viagra Tomato? Join the fun and share your review below!

M

Marina ⭐ Pro Grower (5,182 posts)

The plant is very vigorous, beautiful, practically a tree. Indeterminate. The first fruit truss appears after the 11th leaf, and subsequent ones every 3 leaves. Up to 9 fruits per truss, averaging 3-3.5 oz (80-100 g) each. The trusses don’t require support; they hold up on their own.

Classic tomato flavor with a slight tang/tartness. It’s highly recommended to let the tomatoes hang on the vine to ripen for as long as possible. The fruits have thick walls, are dense and juicy.

An unproblematic variety, sets fruit very well, and is resistant to Late Blight (Phytophthora). The breeder (Gavrish) advises pruning to a single stem, but I ended up with 2 stems. The suckers were so thick and powerful I just couldn’t bring myself to snap them off, and I don’t regret it.
