In Russia, seeds for this variety were heavily circulated by well-known collector V.D. Popenko.

🌿 Plant Habit: Mostly an early-to-mid-season determinate/semi-determinate. It naturally has Potato Leaf (PL) foliage, though growers in this thread discuss experiencing Regular Leaf (RL) anomalies due to cross-pollination. Does well both in the greenhouse and out in the open dirt.

🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Absolutely stunning striped tomatoes. They are red with brilliant gold and yellow stripes, resembling painted apples. The skin is on the thicker side, making them crack-resistant and great for canning or salting.

👅 Flavor Debate: This is a highly debated tomato! Some growers find it bland and mediocre, growing it purely for its killer looks. Others claim that if you let it ripen fully on the vine, it develops a fantastic, complex sweet-and-sour flavor.

🍅 Grown this variety? Click here to add your own photos and review below!

S

Svetlyachok-plyus (Svetlana) ⭐ Pro Grower (1,450 posts)

Vintage Wine in the catalog on the old forum. The taste, I’d say, is mediocre, a bit bland. Resistant to cracking. For maturity, it was early-mid season for me out in the open ground. I’m gonna keep planting it just for the looks.
