It produces massive, butter-fleshed orange-yellow fruits that often sport a very distinct, sharp pointed tip (the “fox nose”). Known for its incredibly sweet, fruity flavor and lack of seeds, it is a massive favorite among growers. While commercial seed packets from companies like Poisk can vary wildly in fruit shape, the true “Fox Nose” strain shared by seed savers is prized for its vigor, long shelf life, and fantastic taste. Full summary ↓

Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 3-6)

C

Cherry (Olga) ⭐ Pro Grower (6,822 posts)

📍 Baranovichi, Belarus (USDA Zone 5)

Orange Heart (Fox Nose)

Verochka (Tomatinka) shared these seeds with me. Grew it in 2012. Easily the most indeterminate indet ever!!! It was the very first vine to hit the greenhouse roof, so I had to lower it. Honestly, doing that was a huge pain because the vine is so thick and robust (unlike a lot of wispy oxheart varieties), the main stem felt hard as a tree trunk. So after wrestling with it for a bit, I just bent it sideways instead of lowering it, too scared I’d snap the stem.

Just like the name implies, the fruits are bright yellow hearts (Vera mentioned hers were more orange). Inside the greenhouse they weren’t huge, maybe 8.8-10.5 oz (250-300 g), but I had one plant outside in the dirt that threw a heart well over 1.1 lbs (500 g). The yield wasn’t massive for me, but the tomatoes are so gorgeous you don’t even care about the yield numbers! Almost felt bad eating them 😆 Taste is decent, just a little lacking in juice.

Edited January 4, 2017 by Drosera

T

tomatinka (Vera) ⭐ Pro Grower (14,911 posts)

📍 Tyumen Region, Russia (USDA Zone 3)

Yeah Olya, weirdly enough mine turned out yellow instead of orange this year too… And honestly I don’t get why my own seeds grow bigger tomatoes for everyone else! I stopped putting it in salads, it’s just too sweet 😁 I eat them straight up like fruit.

Pics from different years:

L

Lana_s_Kavkaza (Svetlana) ⭐ Pro Grower (19,268 posts)

📍 Pyatigorsk, Russia (USDA Zone 6)

Super tasty, grew them in the greenhouse.

N

neLENtyayka (Elena) ⭐ Pro Grower (2,799 posts)

📍 Kemerovo, Russia (USDA Zone 3)

Fox Nose is a favorite!
