The one in the sun was crazy productive, pumping out literal monsters. My largest tomato of the entire year came off that vine, weighing in at 2.7 lbs (1219 g) all by itself.

The flesh is dense, almost zero seeds. It was a massive struggle just to scrape together a few sad seeds from two whole plants. But I got enough to plant it again next year, so that’s a win. I officially put this variety in my Top 10 best-tasting tomatoes. The flesh is dense, but definitely not dry. Very soft when fully ripe. It’s a classic tomato flavor with its own unique twist. For me, it had a perfectly balanced flavor, sweet enough (I hate sour tomatoes, but I don’t like bland ones either). Only the underripe ones were sour. The Kozula flavor really stood out to me among everything else I grew this year. Very tasty.

The photos below show the biggest and the smallest tomato off that sunny vine. The size variance was huge.

The vine on the shady side of the greenhouse had a lower yield, but the fruits were way more uniform, averaging 10.5-12.3 oz (300-350 g). It handles both greenhouse and outdoor setups well, reaching over 5.5 ft (1.7 m) in a greenhouse. Responds strongly to pruning (2 stems) and heavy feeding. Needs full sun to develop its complex flavor.

📈 Yield: Rated consistently high across the board. Produces massive, ribbed, oblate fruits. Standard weight is 8.8-14 oz (250-400 g), but under optimal sun and feeding, it can push out absolute monsters reaching 2.7 lbs (1219 g).

👅 Taste & Texture: Highly variable due to unstable lines in circulation. Some growers report a dense, dry, almost seedless flesh that lacks flavor (best used for jam, sun-drying, or canning). Other growers report an incredibly juicy, sweet, and perfectly balanced beefsteak with green seed gel. The ideal flavor is described as rich and bold with a unique spicy tang.

🌎 Who Reviewed It: Extensively grown and debated across Russia, Belarus, and Europe, ranging from cool short-season climates (Ural Mountains, Kostroma) to warmer areas (Spain, Caucasus).

🍅 Grown Kozula 179? Did you get the dry/dense version or the juicy/sweet one?
