Known as Bychye Serdtse in Russia, Cuor di Bue in Italy, Coeur de Boeuf in France, and Coracao de Boi in Portugal. The forum admin officially merged all these threads, as they all represent regional adaptations of the same legendary lineage.

🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate. This variety is the poster child for “wispy foliage”. The seedlings often look frail, weak, and skinny (leggy), and the adult plant has drooping, thin leaves. Do not over-fertilize trying to “fix” it—this is its natural genetic look.

🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Massive, meaty hearts. Depending on the specific country’s strain or seed vendor, fruits can be bright red or raspberry-pink, and shapes can vary from perfect hearts to ribbed, pear-shaped pouches. They regularly reach 300-500g (10-17 oz), with some reporting 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) monsters.

👅 Flavor: The gold standard of tomato flavor. Universally praised for its intense, sweet, old-fashioned, rich taste with very few seeds.

📈 Yield & Challenges: Yields are highly dependent on the grower and the climate. Some harvest buckets of fruit, while others struggle to get more than 2 or 3 giant tomatoes per plant. To really make the flavor pop, just add a pinch of salt and a drizzle of olive oil.

L

Larek (Larisa) ⭐ Pro Grower (3,699 posts)

M

Mila (Lyudmila) ⭐ Pro Grower (8,411 posts)

📍 Moscow Region (USDA Zone 4)

Larisa, shape-wise, we have the exact same fruits 👍👍 In your photo, I also see that yours didn’t set the entire blossom cluster either 😳😳😳

L

Larek (Larisa) ⭐ Pro Grower (3,699 posts)

I’m planting it again next season to observe. Period from sprouting to the beginning of ripening 118-120 days. Plant height up to 150 cm (5 ft), requires staking, forms 4-5 trusses on the main stem with 2-5 fruits each. Fruits are pink, heart-shaped, weighing 110-225 g (4-8 oz). Excellent taste. Salad variety, recommended for fresh consumption.

My photos:

Started producing by day 97, extremely heavy yielder. There were about 50 seeds in the pack. The fruits on different vines grew into somewhat different shapes and colors. But all are large-fruited. The red-colored and round-shaped ones are a bit sour. The “Budenovka” shaped ones with pink flesh are incredibly tasty and sweet. Now, on day 106, I’m pulling 2-3 kg (4.4-6.6 lbs) of ripe fruit a day. I will definitely be saving seeds from the pink “Budenovka” shapes, I really loved them. As for the downsides — it gets yellow shoulders on almost every tomato (doesn’t bother me much, but my friend absolutely hates it). The second issue is blossom drop in the peak summer heat. Next time I’ll start the seeds earlier so they can set more fruit before the real heat hits.

U

Uriahp (Yuri) 🌱 Beginner (60 posts)

📍 Yaroslavl (USDA Zone 4)

The first ripe heart this year.
Seeds from Yaroslavna.

K

Kostos Svetlana ⭐ Pro Grower (1,060 posts)

📍 Krasnodar, Southern Russia (USDA Zone 7)

German Bull’s Heart, seeds from Valichka

L

Lvovna (Anna) ⭐ Pro Grower (2,131 posts)

📍 Yalta, Crimea (USDA Zone 8)

And here is how it went for me!
