📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Kyzyl Tau
- 🌍 Origin: Modern heirloom bred by the famous tomato breeder Vitaly Alifirov from Almaty, Kazakhstan. The name “Kyzyl Tau” translates from Turkic languages to “Red Mountain.”
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). A very productive and vigorous plant that performs exceptionally well in a greenhouse when pruned to 2 stems.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Bright red, classic oxhearts. One unique trait is that the plant produces a mix of sizes simultaneously—ranging from smaller, cluster-sized hearts to massive, perfectly shaped beefsteak hearts. The flesh is pinkish inside, very firm, yet surprisingly juicy.
- 👅 Flavor: Highly rated for its perfectly balanced profile. It delivers a rich, noticeable sweetness backed up by just the right amount of old-fashioned tomato tang.
Kyzyl Tau. A variety bred by Vitaly Alifirov (Almaty). I absolutely loved it! 👍 Indeterminate, grew it in the greenhouse pruned to 2 stems. Heavy yielder, and the fruits vary in size – from smaller hearts to large, beautifully shaped oxhearts. Bright red, firm but still juicy, with pinkish flesh. Very tasty with a nice sweetness to it.

Does it have any tang to it?

Yes, a very well-balanced flavor. It actually reminds me a bit of Zailiyskiy Alatau, which is another one of Vitaly’s varieties.
