I liked the variety, candidate for planting in 2015.
Oh yes! 👍 👍 👍 I don’t know what other variety can compare with it in the elegance of the fruit shape and the piquancy of the spout 🙂 Conquered my heart forever! 😘
Thank you, Svetlana (Lana) for such a wonderful gift! 👏 👏 👏
Meaty, from the “buttery” series, with excellent taste!
Here they are in the company of Zhyoltiye Grebeshki (Yellow Scallops).
My Vater Rhein. Seeds from Natalya (Yaroslavna). The favorite of this year.

My Vater Rhein, the bushes were not very spreading, grew in 2 and 3 stems. The tomato is bright red, on the first fruits the beak was not very elongated, on the upper trusses a large one grew. Sweet, without acid, meaty, I liked it. Weight, 150-450 grams (5.3-15.8 oz).
The plate is for cake, not small.

Now those are some noses!!! Beauty! And what did they turn out to be in terms of ripening time?
Mine were pleasantly balanced, there was acid to a greater or lesser extent throughout the whole season, but balanced. They didn’t turn out super sweet for me. Pink Honey (Rozovyi Myod) turned out sweeter for me. The bush itself remained vigorous until the bitter end, but I like the variety because the fruits don’t crack under downpours and hail, in my conditions this is soooo good. Made it to the favorites because of the nose)))

I added this photo on July 3rd.
These are from July 31st, this is the 4th-5th truss in the greenhouse.
Not early, that’s for sure, mid-season. When they started to ripen, I was no longer tracking each variety individually, like I do with the very earliest ones in mid-June. They turned out 2 weeks later than the early ones.
Conquered my heart and became a favorite! 😘 😘 😘 Charming, pointy-nosed fruits – I grew it again this season. I formed the plants into 3 stems, removed leaves to a minimum, the bushes remained just as elegant… But the fruits were all quite large, from 200 g (7 oz) and more… the first ones were well over 300 g (10.5 oz).
And still, they are sweet!! Season-2016 once again confirmed this merit of the variety! Thick flesh with a buttery structure, the fruits were not prone to cracking until the end of the season.
Here they are in the company of Yellow Scallops (Zhyoltiye Grebeshki).

The seeds are originally from V. Redko. The skinniest bush I have ever seen. Grew in the greenhouse and in open ground. In terms of ripening, it was mid-late for me. In the greenhouse, it turned out very productive. The fruits are all alike, pointy-nosed, beautiful. 200-400g (7-14 oz). The first greenhouse fruits didn’t win me over with taste, they were somewhat bland. Outdoors in the open ground, the yield was significantly lower and fruits smaller, but the taste – it was as if I tasted a completely different variety. Very tasty and sweet, not bland at all.
For some reason, I didn’t have any red Fater Rein photos, but I do have a green truss. Gorgeous trusses, only it turned out mid-late in ripening for me. Led it in one stem, but in the future I think I’ll try two stems. It managed to set 4 trusses in open ground. I got 6+ fruits per truss at 250+ g (8.8+ oz) each. The fruits are heavy, buttery on the cut, dense, but there are seeds.

Seeds were from the forum. Grew in the greenhouse in the brightest spot. It was so frail-looking, everything nearby had a similar structure, but I thought it wouldn’t recover. 😢
But then it started fruiting!!! And such beautiful ones!!! At the bottom, the first one was like Elena’s from Kostroma, I bought the seeds because of her photo, but it was the only one like that. 😢 All the rest were shaped like small hook-nosed hearts. 🍅 Yummy, with a slight tanginess. 😋 I adore heart-shaped varieties.

HANDSOME!

I grew VR in a polycarbonate greenhouse. Forum seeds. There were 2 bushes in 2 stems. The bush is slender. The variety turned out to be mid-late. 25 and 30 pieces respectively. Quite large, about 300 grams (10.5 oz) each. There were noses but not so sharp. I didn’t understand the taste. It was bland. I really waited for it to improve at the end of the season, since it conquered me with its yield, but – no WOW factor 😞
Nearby grew 2 bushes of Marek’s Pointy Heart – they were very similar in shape, but those were larger, fewer in number, and completely late.
A very beautiful and tasty tomato! The bush is indeed very frail – makes you want to hug it and cry 😄 Grew in the worst spot in the greenhouse, but didn’t disappoint 👍

The taste of the variety is excellent, sweet with a presence of acid. The fully ripe flesh is dark red, very beautiful. The yield is average, but quite decent, and among the red ones, it is one of the tastiest. Keeping it on my permanent grow list.
My favorite 😘, repeating it for the third time, amazingly beautiful and tasty 😋 red hearts, it was a pity to cut them, they lay on a tray on the veranda, everyone admired them. The first fruits are very large, up to 1 kg (2.2 lbs) probably 👍 There are few seeds in the fruits, just juicy delicious meat 😋
I really wanted this variety! The seeds turned out to be non-viable. Barely 1 out of 10 sprouted. I fussed over the seedling like a baby. Planted it in the best spot. When the bush set a lot of fruits, I was very happy. When I tasted it, I was disappointed (( Bland, ordinary… Didn’t even save seeds. I’ll try again from another source.

Maybe this is the impression from the first truss? Try it later when the heat subsides. Sometimes in the heat, the roots cannot extract all the goodies from the soil, and the flavor palette of the variety does not reveal itself. Or maybe feed it with potassium fertilizers.
In my climate, the fruits on the first trusses are always inferior in taste to the subsequent ones due to weather conditions. In any case, you can make gorgeous paste, salsa out of it, or use it for juice.
I grew Vater Rhein tomato in 2016. Seeds were from A.I. Kulik. It was the tastiest variety of the year. It seemed to me that I had never eaten a tastier tomato. Very sweet, buttery and at the same time juicy. There are extremely few seeds in the fruit. The flesh of a ripe fruit is dark red, bright. The shape is very beautiful, with a beak. The fruits were all about the same weight (200-250 grams / 7-8.8 oz), smooth and even. In terms of timing, it was mid-season. For me, Vater Rhein tomato was not very productive, as it sat in the worst spot. Next year I definitely must repeat it. A variety with an amazing taste is worth it!
A very tasty tomato! The tastiest of all I’ve tried this season.. And very productive.
It is not for nothing they say, as many people, as many opinions. Planting this tomato for the second year. And I will always plant it, very balanced taste, sweet with tanginess, not bland, aroma of a real tomato. But it didn’t impress with yield in open ground. So, I will plant more bushes.
The photo is somewhat unsuccessful, you can’t see the characteristic nose, but it really is there. The seeds flew to me from Krasnoyarsk, from a tomato lover, but from another, Krasnoyarsk forum.
Irina, I look at your photos, and it seems to me you don’t have Vater Rhein. 😳 Doesn’t look like it at all.
Yes, at first the tomatoes were without noses, but on the last truss there was one with the characteristic nose for Vater Rhein.
P.S. We had two months of rain this year, maybe that’s why the taste was like that. I will try again next year and buy new seeds.
This year I repeated this variety from other seeds. I struggled with it. Resowed twice. One runt survived. Was afraid to breathe on it. 😄 Then it acted up again, I had to cut off the top and root it. As a result, planted it late. But the potential is good! One fruit managed to ripen on its own, the rest – forcibly (indoors). Up top, flowers-ovaries – decent amount! Now the shape is correct. Didn’t understand the taste. 😞 Either it didn’t like my conditions or… I will repeat it again – handsome guy!
Grew this variety for two years, seeds from two sources. They were like this both years:
Mid-season ripening time, excellent taste.
I will not grow it anymore, because I believe that “a gardener is a human being too” 🙈
The pathetic look of the seedlings ruins the nervous system, starting from potting up. And then the pathetic look of the bushes in the greenhouse. All the time it seems that they have only a week to live 😞

Natalya, I also trembled, because I hadn’t seen such a skinny guy before him, but then kind people told me not to be afraid to feed it heavily, and it acquired a decent look for heart-shaped ones))) This is in case you decide to give it another chance because of the taste.
Svetlana, thank you very much for a wonderful variety! 🌺
Grew in a film greenhouse. In May it got hit by frost, barely recovered. Therefore, it turned out late. At first I didn’t appreciate it. Just a washed-out taste with a little sweetness. And then, when they hung longer and gained sugar, I was delighted. VERY!!! sweet, taste is bright, rich. And the color is just amazing. Such a blazing color is only found in the “Zhar Goryaschie Ugli” (Glowing Coals Heat) tomato. In short, Vater Rhein blew my mind. And even in such Spartan conditions, it managed to be productive.
Beautiful, very tasty, flesh is dense. But yield is lagging, I will try to root it lying down in the seedling stage and plant 2 per hole.
Where is it better to plant it in the greenhouse? On the sunny side or on the middle bed?
Alisa, poke me, please, where to read about its “feeding”. Liked it very much for the taste, among the leaders, appearance with a perky nose, but also scared by the pathetic look of the bush – makes you want to hug it and cry.

Mine grew outdoors in open ground on the middle bed. Its bush structure is so frail that I was afraid to plant it on the sunny side. As you can see in my photos in this thread, the yield in the trusses was good.

I fed it mostly with a complex fertilizer. In the initial stages, it didn’t overgrow with foliage from nitrogen fertilizers for me, unlike other varieties. It liked fermented weed tea. You can feed it once a week, when other varieties are fed no more than once every two weeks, or even a month. And if you feed with water-soluble fertilizers, then you can do it with every watering. I think initially you can give it more compost or horse manure in the planting hole than other varieties.

Repeated. In the greenhouse, 1 bush grew in 2 stems. Yield is higher than last year. Taste is excellent! It is obvious that it hasn’t given everything it is capable of. Sat in a draft. Will try to plant in a more comfortable place next season. I want to plant more bushes. Has anyone tried two bushes in 1 planting hole? What was the result, girls?
Only have this photo. Evening. Didn’t have time this year.
