📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Zheltyi Klyuv (Yellow Beak)
- 🌍 Origin: A beautiful Russian heirloom. The name translates to “Yellow Beak,” perfectly describing the distinct, elongated pointy tip on the bottom of the fruit.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Performs exceptionally well in greenhouses (reaching over 6 ft) and does well outdoors (around 5 ft / 1.5 m). Can easily support 2-3 main stems without dropping production.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Stunning, bright orange oxhearts with a distinct point (beak). Weight ranges from 5.3 to 10.5 oz (150-300 g). The flesh is very dense, meaty, and contains almost no seeds or gel.
- 👅 Flavor: The ultimate sweet orange tomato. Very meaty and sweet with absolutely zero acidity (no tartness whatsoever).
Zheltyi Klyuv (Yellow Beak). An excellent, highly productive, and absolutely gorgeous representative of the orange oxheart family 👍.
Indet, grew in the greenhouse pruned to 2 main stems. The fruits are very elegant, deep orange, dense little hearts. They are tasty, sweet 😋, meaty, and weigh around 5.3-10.5 oz (150-300 g). And they are practically seedless 🤯

A very beautiful variety, tasty, sweet, meaty, and productive!
I agree, a very tasty variety.
The description for this variety can be found on Irina’s blog.
Mine didn’t have as pronounced of a “beak” (pointy tip), but they were still very beautiful and tasty.
A very tasty and productive variety. Grew it in the greenhouse in 2022. I liked it, will most likely grow it again.
One of my absolute favorite orange gems.

👨🌾 Editor’s Notes:
- The “Beak” Mutation: Lyudmila mentions that her tomatoes didn’t have as pronounced of a “beak” (the pointy tip on the blossom end). In many oxheart and heart-shaped varieties, the prominence of this tip can vary greatly depending on weather, temperature during pollination, and whether the flower was a megabloom (fused blossom).
- Low Acidity: Like many yellow and orange heirloom tomatoes, Zheltyi Klyuv is incredibly sweet and lacks the tart “acidic bite” of traditional red tomatoes. This makes it a fantastic choice for growers who suffer from acid reflux but still want to enjoy fresh tomatoes!
