📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Amurskaya Zarya (Amur Dawn)
- 🌍 Origin: A commercial Russian variety, often sold by the SeDeK seed company. The name translates to “Amur Dawn,” referring to the Amur River region in the Russian Far East.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Determinate (bush). Very compact, growing only 50–60 cm (20–24 inches) tall, but it spreads quite wide. It features somewhat frail, “wispy” foliage that gets easily weighed down by the massive fruit load. Pro Tip: It requires good support, otherwise the heavy bushes will flop completely over onto the ground!
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Deep pink to red-crimson, oblate (flattened-round) fruits with slight ribbing at the shoulders. They are very uniform, averaging 120–150g (4.2–5.3 oz). Excellent resistance to cracking.
- 👅 Flavor: Dense, meaty, and very tasty with a classic, well-balanced sweet-and-tart tomato flavor.
- 💪 Yield & Vigor: An absolute yield monster for its small size. Growers also note extreme seed viability – in this thread, seeds that expired back in 2007 were successfully sprouted and grown years later!
Seeds were from SeDeK. This variety was my greatest discovery this year! It is incredibly productive. The height of the bush outdoors in open ground is 60 cm (24 inches).
Beautiful oblate, slightly ribbed red-crimson fruits densely smother the somewhat frail/wispy foliage. They do not crack. The flesh is dense and very tasty (at least to my taste).

Here is the bush, and this is just the first tier of fruits! I pruned the suckers only up to the first flower truss.

I really liked this little tomato too. Truly a very pleasant discovery. High yielding, tasty, and meaty.
I received a packet of seeds for this variety from Galya-Esme. Their expiration date was way back in 2007!
I pruned it up to the first truss. While I was away, the bushes completely flopped over onto the ground under their own weight, but thankfully nothing spoiled or rotted. I couldn’t even fit the whole bush into the photo – even though it’s only about 50 cm (20 inches) tall, it’s probably just as wide, if not wider!
The fruits are pink, very uniform, weighing 120-150 grams (4.2-5.3 oz). The taste is good – a classic sweet-and-tart, rich tomato flavor.
