Apricot Brandywine Tomato Review

Rate this

📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Apricot Brandywine

  • 🌍 Origin: A beautiful variation within the famous Brandywine family, prized among heirloom collectors for its unique coloration and classic flavor profile.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate, PL (Potato Leaf). A very vigorous and sturdy plant that can easily reach 6 ft (1.8m+) in a greenhouse. Responds well to being pruned to 1 or 2 stems.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, beautiful apricot/orange beefsteaks. Notable trait: It naturally features green streaking or blushing on the shoulders even when fully ripe—this is perfectly normal and does not mean the tomato is underripe. The flesh is incredibly dense, smooth, and “buttery” with very few seeds. Generally blemish-free.
  • 👅 Flavor: Absolutely top-tier. Growers consistently rate it as one of the best-tasting varieties of their season. It has a rich, complex, sweet flavor with just the perfect hint of tanginess.
  • ⏳ Maturity: Mid-season to mid-late.

Seeds from Redko. Indet. Grew two bushes in the greenhouse. One bush to two stems, the other to a single stem. I topped them at a height of 5.2 ft (1.6 m). Yield – good, maturity – mid-season. The bush is vigorous, PL (potato leaf). Some of the fruits have green “strokes/blushes” on the top—this is a variety trait and does not affect the taste at all.

The flavor is excellent, sweet with a tiny bit of tang, and the flesh is “buttery”. One of the absolute best-tasting tomatoes this year out of 80 varieties I grew. It’s getting a permanent spot on my grow list.

My Apricot Brandywine, also from Redko. Grew one bush in the greenhouse. Vigorous, height around 6 ft (1.80-1.90m), PL. Very heavy yielder, good taste, all fruits are large and beautiful. Sowed in early April, picked the very last ripe mater today (photo of the slices).

Potato leaf, large, already picked everything ripe off the bush. Left 3 hanging right at the ceiling, very large. Tasty, beautiful.

Nothing to add, same experience as everyone else here. Excellent variety. Adding photos.

Forgot to note the maturity—it turned out mid-late for me this summer.

Beautiful and tasty! But unfortunately, it didn’t shine in terms of yield for me. Those green blushes near the stem (a variety trait) give the fruits an incredible, unique beauty. The flesh is buttery, very few seeds.
