📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Black Vernissage (Vernisazh Chernyi)
- 🌍 Origin: A very popular, striking variety bred by Ukrainian tomato breeder Ruslan Dukhov. It is part of the famous “Vernissage” series, which also includes Pink, Yellow, and Green variations.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). An extremely vigorous and productive vine that easily reaches over 6.5 ft (2 m) in a greenhouse setting. Keeps producing right up until the first frost.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Small cocktail/salad-sized round tomatoes. The color is a beautiful deep burgundy/mahogany with metallic green and bronze stripes. Very juicy.
- 👅 Flavor & Use: Rich, tangy, and very juicy. There is some debate among growers regarding its shelf life—some find it too watery for long transport, while others praise its firmness. Due to its size and juiciness, it is highly recommended for whole-fruit canning.

Black Vernissage turned out tall in the greenhouse (6.5 ft / 2 m), heavy-yielding, and mid-season. The fruits are small, burgundy-colored with striping, and round in shape. Very juicy. Perfect for whole-fruit canning.

A huge downside—it absolutely does not store or transport well, not even the 120 miles (200 km) drive from my country house back home. Probably has a very low dry matter content (too watery). So honestly, I don’t think the variety is worth the space.
