Quick Summary of Serdce Boba (Coeur de Bob)
- 🌍 Origin: A popular variety known by its French name Coeur de Bob, which translates to “Bob’s Heart” (Сердце Боба). Despite the “heart” in the name, it is a distinctly elongated, pepper-shaped tomato.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate with classic “wispy” (delicate) foliage. Growers recommend pruning it to 2 or 3 stems for best results. It has a long harvest window, often producing right up until the first frost.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Bright red, elongated (pepper/icicle or even sausage-shaped). They are incredibly glossy and smooth with a very thin skin. Average weight is 150–250g (5–9 oz). The flesh is thick, dense, and has almost no voids or seeds.
- 👅 Flavor: Outstandingly sweet and rich! Unlike many paste tomatoes that can be dry or tough, Coeur de Bob is meaty yet juicy.
- 💡 Pro Tips: This variety is a dream for canning and sauce-making because the skin peels off easily with a knife without needing to blanch them in boiling water. However, it does not do well in containers/buckets, where it becomes highly susceptible to Blossom End Rot (BER).

That is absolutely true. Both very few seeds and the tomatoes are delicious. For some reason, before I tried it, I thought the taste of this variety would be mediocre. But it turned out to be really good.

Good afternoon! I was also surprised—they are tasty and not dry. Another great thing is that they have a very thin skin, which can easily be peeled off with just a knife without any blanching (heating).
This is important to me, as aesthetics matter in canning). And it makes it so much easier to make juice and sauce later.

Nataliya, our “Bob” didn’t even make it to the canning jars. This year, when practically all the tomatoes were obscenely sweet, we just wanted to eat the tasty ones fresh. And Bob’s Heart turned out to be exactly that—very tasty.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I tried growing this variety in a bucket (container). Bob did not like the bucket at all, or maybe I lacked the skill. The tomatoes were completely covered in Blossom End Rot (BER).
I really liked it this year. An excellent variety—sweet and productive. I planted it for the first time, and it’s staying on my repeat list.
Lyudmila, what a handsome tomato it grew up to be in your green thumbs! 👍

It’s been growing outdoors in open ground for my second or third year in a row. To my taste, it is the most delicious of all the pepper- and icicle-shaped varieties. It has a very rich, sweet flavor, and the tomato itself is meaty but not dry or tough.
I grew it last season. A wonderful tomato, very tasty and meaty. However, in my conditions, the “sausage tomatoes” had a more elongated, stretched shape. The name actually surprised me, and I kept wondering: “What does a heart have to do with it?”
An excellent variety—productive, beautiful, and tasty! The plant had delicate, wispy foliage, I pruned it to 3 stems, and it set full trusses of beautiful pepper-shaped tomatoes. They have thin skin, weigh 150-250g (5-9 oz), with thick walls, no hollow voids, small seed cavities, and very few seeds!
