📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Costoluto Colli Euganei
- 🌍 Origin: A magnificent family heirloom from the Veneto region in Northern Italy. The name translates to “Ribbed of the Euganean Hills”. The Euganean Hills are a national nature reserve known for their incredibly fertile volcanic soil, mild climate, ancient oak and chestnut forests, olive groves, and endless vineyards.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall), regular leaf. Very vigorous and strong plants that easily reach 2 meters (6.5 ft) and higher. Mid-late to late season maturity.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Stunning, glossy, heavily ribbed/pleated fruits with a unique “pearly pink” color. The shape is a mix of a ribbed pear and an oxheart. Weight ranges from 200 to 500g (7 to 18 oz).
- 👅 Flavor: Highly praised gourmet flavor! The flesh is very dense, meaty, and melting, with a bright, sweet, “explosive” taste. Extremely few seeds.
- ⏳ Grower Notes: Universally loved for combining incredible beauty, top-tier flavor, and very high yields. A permanent keeper for many growers.

I also grew Costoluto Colli Euganei this season. Very vigorous and strong plants reaching almost 2 meters (6.5 ft) tall with regular foliage. I pruned them to 3 stems. For me, the variety turned out to be quite late-season but very productive. The fruits are an interesting pink color, medium to large in size, and beautifully shaped. The flesh is dense but at the same time juicy, melt-in-your-mouth, with a pleasant sweet taste.
An amazing variety!
Productive, delicious, and a real looker. Very few seeds, the flesh is dense. It is the discovery of the season for me among pink tomatoes. Going on my permanent grow list—without a doubt!
Costoluto Colli Euganei (Ribbed of the Euganean Hills). Italy.
A very decent Italian tomato variety.
I would call the taste gourmet. It’s simply explosive, bright, and sweet.
What’s interesting is that the yield didn’t disappoint either; this season, one of the bushes was among the leaders in that regard. It’s just a pity there are so few seeds inside! Although, as I said, from two bushes, the harvest was substantial.
The bush is strong and tall. Fruits are 200-300g (7-10.5 oz), shaped like ribbed pear-hearts. Mid-late season variety. Highly recommend it.
