Growers’ Notes and Photos
Ran this one in the greenhouse back in 2019. My yields were honestly pretty dismal (only pulled a few fruits off one plant and maybe 2 lbs / 1 kg off the second). But the flavor was so out of this world that it’s absolutely going back on my grow list. Could just be that my specific microclimate didn’t agree with it.
Grew these in-ground here in Poltava. Pruned them to 2 leaders. Yields were pretty average.
Honestly, I never even planned on growing this variety. I only ended up with it because a nice lady reached out asking if I had any seeds to spare. She told me she used to grow it, but her husband kept raiding the patch and eating every single ripe one right off the vine… he literally didn’t leave her a single mater to save seed from! When she got on his case about it, he told her that since he helps pull weeds in the garden, he gets first dibs on whatever he wants.
Hearing that, I realized I desperately needed to find cell space for Harvard Square. I wasn’t wrong. It’s a fantastic tomato. So incredibly delicious. I’ve grown other GWRs (green-when-ripes) like Kiwi and Malachite Box before, but this one is just on a whole other level.
Full Summary: Harvard Square
- 🌿 Plant: Indet vine. Hits about 6.5 ft (2m) under poly and responds well to being run to 2 main leaders.
- 📈 Yield: Results are a mixed bag. While one grower found it very productive, others reported average to dismal yields (as little as 2 lbs / 1 kg per plant in tricky conditions).
- 👅 Taste: The main reason to grow this variety. Unanimously described as divine, sweet, and superior to other top-tier GWRs like Malachite Box.
- 📦 Storage: Not explicitly noted, but given the glowing flavor reviews, these rarely last long enough on the kitchen counter to find out!
- 🌎 Who Reviewed It: 3 growers tested this variety in both greenhouse and in-ground setups.
