Jasmina Tomato Review & Photos (Serbian Heirloom)

Rate this

📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Jasmina

  • 🌍 Origin: A fantastic heirloom variety from Serbia, bred and popularized by the well-known Serbian tomato breeder Živojin Antić.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). An incredibly vigorous and powerful plant. Due to the extreme weight of the fruits, providing extra support for the fruit clusters (trusses) is highly recommended to prevent them from snapping.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Giant pink beefsteaks. The fruits are very uniform, visually stunning, and massive. Average size is around 1.5 lbs (700 g), but they can easily exceed 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg) under good conditions.
  • 👅 Flavor: Top-tier. The flesh is dense, meaty (not mealy at all), very juicy, and incredibly sweet.

Jasmina (Serbia)

A variety from Živojin Antić, a famous Serbian breeder. Indet, all the tomatoes are large, pink, meaty beefsteaks up to 1.5 lbs (700 g). Beautiful and incredibly tasty! 👍

Thanks to Galina @axleto for the seeds! 🙏

Jasmina – a Serbian variety.

Indet, a very vigorous bush, I pruned it to 2 main stems. The fruits are large pink beefsteaks. This year I had specimens weighing 2 lbs (900 g) and even 2.6 lbs (1200 g)! The trusses were kinking under the sheer weight.

The flesh is not mealy at all – it’s juicy and delicious. An excellent variety!

👨‍🌾 Editor’s Notes:

  • Kinking Trusses: Olga mentions that the trusses (fruit clusters) were “kinking” or snapping under the weight of the massive fruits. For giant oxhearts and beefsteaks like Jasmina, it is highly recommended to use truss supports (J-hooks or clips) when growing them on a trellis or string. If a truss kinks, it cuts off the flow of nutrients and water, stopping the tomatoes from reaching their full potential size!
