📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Jessica
- 🌍 Origin: An indeterminate heirloom variety originally from Argentina.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Vigorously grows with very healthy, dark green foliage. Responds well to being pruned to 3 main stems in a greenhouse setting.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Dark (brown/black) cocktail-sized tomatoes shaped like little pears with thin necks. Average weight is about 1.1-1.4 oz (30-40 g). Note: one grower reported a raspberry-pink off-type.
- 👅 Flavor & Use: Flavor reviews are somewhat mixed for fresh eating, but due to their size and shape, they are universally praised as being absolutely gorgeous for whole-fruit canning.
- ⏳ Maturity: Late season. It has a long fruiting window.
An indeterminate variety from Argentina, shared with me by Natasha (Natella). The bush has very healthy, dark green foliage, but it doesn’t always set full trusses. The fruits are dark (black), pear-shaped, and not very large. I haven’t really gotten a good taste of it yet 😄. It’s a late-season variety.
For some reason, my Jessica grew out raspberry-pink. I really liked the little fruits for their elegant shape, and they were very sweet with zero acidity.
Jessica. A very interesting and cute cocktail variety. Indeterminate, I grew it in the greenhouse pruned to 3 main stems. It’s highly productive with a long fruiting window. The fruits are little brown pears with thin necks, weighing about 1.1-1.4 oz (30-40 g), and they have a good flavor. They will look absolutely gorgeous canned in jars.

In Russian and European tomato classification, a “Cocktail Tomato” refers to a specific size class that sits right between a standard Cherry tomato and a small Salad tomato. They typically weigh around 1-2 oz (30-50 g). While cherry tomatoes are usually eaten in one bite, cocktail tomatoes are large enough that you’d want to slice them in half for a salad, making them the absolute perfect size for whole-fruit canning in jars!
