📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Kalman’s Hungarian Pink
- 🌍 Origin: A famous family heirloom originally from Hungary, introduced to the US heirloom community by Kalman Lajvort (Edison, NJ). It is highly regarded worldwide and was famously used by Polish breeder Anna Jankowski (Kozula) to create her highly sought-after K10 cross.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). A very vigorous and reliable plant that continues to set fruit relentlessly all the way to the top of the vine, even in crowded greenhouse conditions.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Dark pink, elongated oval or large plum/paste tomatoes. They are very dense, meaty, and surprisingly heavy for their size, averaging around 5-6 oz (150-170 g).
- 👅 Flavor: Universally praised for its intense, sugary sweetness and rich flavor. Unlike many dry paste tomatoes, Kalman’s is quite juicy, making it exceptional for both fresh eating and processing into juice/sauce.
- ⏳ Maturity: Mid-to-late season. Growers note it is not an early producer, but its extended, non-stop fruiting window makes up for the wait.
A tall variety, the fruits are pink, oval-shaped, juicy, and very sweet 😋, weighing up to 6 oz (170 g). Has a very long, extended fruiting period. Grew it in the greenhouse, pruned to 2 main stems. Absolutely loved this variety! 👍

I grew this variety in 2017 (seeds from Sofia27). During the seedling stage, I accidentally snapped the plant in half. I just rooted the broken top in water and planted it. The yield under my conditions (my greenhouse was constantly flooding that year) was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to taste it fresh—I processed the entire harvest into tomato juice.
These are the lower trusses of Kalman’s Hungarian Pink (that’s the name it was sold to me under in 2016).
One of my absolute favorites! This year I’m planting its “brother” from Kozula—the K10 cross (an improved Kalman’s Hungarian Pink).
This is now one of my all-time favorite varieties! And to think, I didn’t even want to plant it in 2019. Very sweet and delicious, dark pink, has a great shelf life, and it just keeps setting fruit non-stop… right up to the very top of the vine without slowing down. Seeds were from Svetikk, thank you 🌺
Not a bad little tomato. Large, dense, and heavy plum/paste tomatoes, quite a heavy yielder. But it is definitely not an early-season variety.
A good variety, the tomatoes are delicious. Fairly large plum-shaped fruits, deep pink color, very dense. Meaty.
Pruned it to 2 stems, it grew right in the thickest, most crowded part of the greenhouse. Not an early variety.
