That’s exactly what I was told, but look at the first page, this is the exact Khurma I am talking about. You have a completely different strain – I call them “little balls”, I haven’t planted those, but my girlfriends like mine better anyway.
It’s a pity I can’t show my photos, the bicolor is clearly visible there, not even just in the cross-section 👍
Nina, no one doubts that you have a bicolor. We doubt that you have a Khurma. In fact, we are certain of it. The picture on the packet is just a picture, but off-types (wrong strains) are real. Most likely, you got an off-type/mix-up in the seeds. A “much better fur,” so to speak.
Of course, I don’t dispute that fact! But an off-type probably happens by mistake from a packet with the exact same name and characteristics, rather than a mass release. And on this packet, like the one from the author of this thread, the stated characteristics are completely different, but the name is the same. These name duplications have been discussed often, and it’s hard for me to write anything new. I have 2 completely different varieties in characteristics and shape under the names – Pink Flamingo and Northern Lights. But since I grow them for myself and mostly for aesthetic pleasure, I don’t get upset, I just choose one or the other, though of course, I want exact adherence to the variety.

Khurma is usually a large and fairly round slicing tomato. Personally, all my fruits were large, but ribbed ones happened too. However, the ones in the photo are most likely “Golden Bull” (Zolotoy Byk). Very tasty, high yield, but ripens slightly later than Khurma.

I had an accident with it — the bush snapped during planting 🤕, but then it recovered 👍
There were absolutely no seeds in the first truss 🤷♀️, I had to take them from the second truss (in the photo).
The height was about 1.5m (5 ft).
In general, in 2016 I planted 5 varieties of Khurma — 4 more from Olya (Olena):
– heart-shaped, very productive, not Khurma to me
– with a potato leaf (PL) (from Mars seed company)
– flat-round
Another one was orange spheres of 100-200g (3.5-7 oz) — couldn’t find the photo 🤷♀️ — classic Khurma
And finally — our family’s Khurma, passed down from my parents. A large plum tomato 200-400g (7-14 oz). We have been planting it for over 25 years — we love it 😋👍
Overall, there’s a ton of different Khurmas 😲, everyone has their own 🌺
I’ll give you a consultation:
1. There is no Khurma in the Russian Federation at all. Theoretically, a few people in Kuban and Stavropol might have it.
2. The photos show completely fake tomatoes. Modern hybrids. Not even close.
3. Khurma smells and kills microbes, including Covid. Just like all real tomatoes.
4. Khurma is short. Less than a meter (3.3 ft).
5. Even the real Khurma only produces flavor under the scorching sun or in a heated greenhouse.
A good, tasty variety, the last time I grew it the seeds were somewhat off-type, without the green spot (green shoulders) at the stem. The most successful Khurma was from a plain white packet from Auchan (supermarket) for 1 ruble.
