Hillbilly – USA, indeterminate, late season, tall bush, bi-color fruit, beefsteak type, good for salads, almost no seeds, good taste with hints of tropical fruits.

I also grew it, couldn’t find a photo, but I remember it was late season, and therefore not very productive. The taste was sweetish. I didn’t grow it again, I preferred Zagadka Prirody (Nature’s Riddle).

The yield, respectively, also disappointed… but the tomatoes are very beautiful and tasty!

I had this variety under the translated name DEREVENSKIE (Hillbilly / Village) from Kulik (Ukraine).
– Visual description of the bush: mid-late variety, sprawling, regular leaf (RL).
– Fruit set – no dropped blossoms.
– Height of the bush in open ground on Aug 13th – 1.4 m (4.6 ft), the last fruits are ripening.
– Trusses – 3-4 fruits each.
– Overall yield – above average.
– Fruit: flat-round bi-color, orange with red-pink streaks, mostly flattened, but some heart-shaped ones pop up too.
– Density of ripe fruit – low (soft/juicy).
– Taste – harmonious, balanced, juicy, tasty, sweetness is a solid 5 out of 5.
First impression: a large sweet tomato for eating fresh and processing.
Minuses – none found.
Rating: Seedlings – 5, Bush – 4, Fruit – 5-, Overall variety rating – 4+.
A good little bi-color – large, sweet, and the yield is top-notch. Not an early one…
I had the Hillbilly Potato Leaf (PL) strain from Kulik. The fruits turned out tasty, sweet, with a red starburst (tie) core on the cross-section. The foliage was potato leaf type, and the yield was good.
This variety really pleased me with its beauty. When the fruits ripen, they look like a crisp apple. Yellow with a red blush. Quite firm. I liked it! The taste is normal (classic). I think it would be good for canning in a jar if not overripe. 🌺 I kept it in my collection – it is worthy.
