🍅 Quick take: Kudesnik (Magician) is a very compact determinate bush tomato that produces uniform, pinkish-red slicing/canning tomatoes weighing 3.5-4 oz (100-110 g). Reaching only 1.5 feet (0.5 m) tall outdoors, it requires almost zero pruning and is highly disease-resistant. Growers prize it for its unexpectedly sweet flavor and its ability to ripen a heavy harvest all at once, making it ideal for processing. Full summary ↓

A productive, mid-season, low-maintenance variety that is highly resistant to diseases. The bush is very short, it only reached 1.5 feet (0.5 m) tall out in the dirt. It produced very few suckers, so I just left them all on, and every single one set fruit. The tomatoes ripened all at once.

The fruits are pink, round, smooth, of excellent quality, with an average weight of 3.5-4 oz (100-110 g). The flavor is really good, the tomatoes are firm, beautiful, and great for both fresh salads and canning jars. Seeds from Biotekhnika.

Seeds from DemSib. The tomatoes are round, slightly elongated, and leaning closer to a red color. Visually, it looks like a typical firm canning variety, but the flavor turned out to be unexpectedly fantastic. Very aromatic and sweet. I’ll definitely be planting it again from my own saved seeds.

Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Storage

  • 🌿 Plant: A highly compact determinate bush. Reaching only 1.5 ft (0.5 m) tall outdoors, it requires zero pruning. It naturally produces very few suckers, and leaving them on the plant will maximize the harvest without creating a tangled mess. It is also noted for having excellent disease resistance.
  • 🍅 Fruit: Firm, smooth, round fruits that vary in color from deep pink to pinkish-red depending on the seed line. They average 3.5 to 4 oz (100-110 g) in weight.
  • 📈 Yield: Excellent. The plant features a concentrated harvest, meaning a huge portion of the crop ripens all at once rather than trickling in over several months.
  • 👅 Taste & Use: Despite having the firm, meaty look of a standard canning tomato, growers report that the flavor is intensely aromatic and surprisingly sweet, making it fantastic for fresh eating.

👨‍🌾 Editor’s Note: The “Concentrated Harvest”
The growers in this thread mention that the fruits on Kudesnik ripened “all at once.” In agricultural terms, this is called a concentrated harvest. While home gardeners usually prefer indeterminate vines that provide a slow, steady supply of tomatoes all summer long, a concentrated harvest on a determinate bush is the holy grail for people who can, pickle, or make sauce. It allows you to harvest dozens of pounds on the exact same weekend, process everything in one massive batch, and put your canning supplies away!
