Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 3-4 Experience)
I got the seeds for this variety from Marinichka -can’t thank her enough! Grew it outdoors in the dirt. It held up great against all the crazy extreme weather we had this summer. The plant is short, about 2.3 feet (70 cm). Good flavor, and the tomato is very meaty with barely any seeds.
Elya, thanks for the seeds! I really loved this variety too. Grew it outdoors. It got to about 3 feet (1 m) tall. Yields were fantastic. The fruits mostly look like plump icicles, though you get some heart-shaped ones in the mix too. Juicy, meaty tomatoes that are just as great fresh in a salad as they are processed in jars.
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Storage
- 🌿 Plant: A very compact, manageable plant. When grown outdoors, growers report it staying between 2.3 and 3 feet (70-100 cm) tall. It is highly rugged and handles extreme summer weather and temperature swings like a champ.
- 🍅 Fruit: Crimson-pink. The shape can vary from elongated oxhearts to thick, plump icicles. They weigh between 5 and 10.5 oz (150-300 g) and are visually striking.
- 📈 Yield: Excellent. It sets fruit reliably and produces highly uniform tomatoes both in a greenhouse and completely unprotected outdoors.
- 👅 Taste & Use: The flesh is juicy but incredibly meaty, featuring a very low seed count. This makes it an outstanding dual-purpose tomato: it slices perfectly for fresh eating without falling apart, and cooks down beautifully for canning and processing.
