Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zone 4 Experience)
Slava shared these seeds with me so we could grow them out and check if this was just a renamed clone of another variety. Well, I can officially confirm it is a completely unique, standalone variety!
Indet, vigorous vine, early season, with potato leaf foliage and gorgeous trusses. The fruits are yellow pear cherries. Meaty but juicy, very sweet, with few seeds. They also hold up really well for canning in jars. It’s definitely staying in my collection, became an absolute favorite.
Now for the comparison. It looks a lot like Honey Drop, BUT! Lampochki is strictly an early variety, and it’s way sweeter than Honey Drop. Plus, Honey Drop cracks terribly both when you pick it off the vine and when you process it in jars. Lampochki doesn’t split or crack at all.
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Uses
- 🌿 Plant: Indeterminate, early season. A vigorous vine that features distinct potato leaf (PL) foliage. Sets beautiful, heavy trusses of fruit.
- 🍅 Fruit: Yellow, pear-shaped cherry tomatoes. They are meaty but juicy with a very low seed count. Unlike many other yellow pears, they are highly crack-resistant.
- 📈 Yield: Excellent. Heavy trusses pump out lots of little lightbulbs starting early in the season.
- 👅 Taste & Use: Very sweet. Excellent for fresh snacking right off the vine. Because the skins don’t split, they are highly recommended for whole-fruit canning and pickling.
