Growers’ Notes and Photos
KOZULA 127 RudyA newer breeding line developed by Anna Jankowski (Poland). Supposedly practically stable, sitting at F7 in 2018. It’s a mid-season indet with regular leaves. The vine is sturdy, getting to about 5.2–5.6 ft (1.6–1.7 m) tall. I pruned mine to two stems.
The fruits are oblate (round and slightly flattened) with light ribbing, weighing 5–9 oz (150–250 g). The color is dark red with a purple blush, and it can sometimes show spots or mottling. Mine actually threw stripes. The flesh is blood-red with pink marbling – it’s firm, but at the same time incredibly juicy with a lot of gel and seeds. Very aromatic with a bold, pronounced flavor.
Yield was just average for me. My seeds were from Valdis Pulins.

Wait, why did Yulia’s throw stripes, but Svetlana’s is just a solid dark black tomato? Is this variety still unstable?
KOZULA 127 Rudy seems to turn out differently for everyone who grows it. Even though a lot of seed vendors list these lines as fairly stable by now, I honestly feel like all the Kozulas still throw genetic curveballs.

They definitely segregate. There are totally different versions floating around right now—there’s a plum-shaped version, a potato-leaf (PL) version, and a regular-leaf (RL) version.
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Segregation
- 🌿 Plant: A sturdy indeterminate vine that grows to about 5.5-6 ft (1.6-1.8 m). Depending on the seed stock, it may produce regular leaves (RL) or potato leaves (PL).
- 📈 Yield: Ratings vary depending on the specific line and growing conditions, with some growers reporting average yields outdoors and others reporting heavy yields in the greenhouse.
- 👅 Taste: Universally praised for its bold, aromatic profile. It has a rich, sweet flavor with a slight acidic tang and extremely juicy, gel-heavy flesh.
- 🎨 Segregation (Unstable Traits): If you grow Kozula 127 Rudy, be prepared for surprises! Despite being listed as F7 (which is normally considered stable), growers report massive variations. You might get a striped beefsteak, a solid dark-purple slicer, or even a dark plum-shaped paste tomato.
- 🌎 Who Reviewed It: Grown in warm climates (Spain) and cooler greenhouse environments (Caucasus).
