Lyuba’s Heart (Serdtse Lyuby) Orange Oxheart Tomato Review

5/5 - (1 vote)

Quick Summary of Serdtse Lyuby (Lyuba’s Heart)

  • 🌍 Origin: A wonderful Russian collector’s variety. The name translates to “Lyuba’s Heart” (Lyuba is short for Lyubov, which also means “Love” in Russian).
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Can grow very vigorous and tall in a greenhouse (some growers report tying it to the ceiling), though its vines and foliage are somewhat slender and wispy compared to other varieties. Performs best when grown in a greenhouse rather than outdoors.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Deep orange, slightly ribbed oxhearts. They come in various sizes and shapes on the same plant, typically averaging around 200g (7 oz), but can easily reach up to 400g (14 oz). The flesh is very dense, meaty, and contains almost no seeds.
  • 👅 Flavor: Noticeably sweet and refreshing. While some find yellow/orange tomatoes to be on the milder side, it pairs perfectly in salads with red varieties.

Serdtse Lyuby. Indeterminate, a beautiful variety with elegant, slightly ribbed heart-shaped fruits of a rich orange color, weighing up to 400g (14 oz). A highly productive and very tasty variety. Seeds from Sofia27.

Seeds from the same source. Beautiful orange hearts of various shapes. My maximum weight was slightly over 200g (7 oz). The flesh is dense, almost without seeds. The taste has noticeable sweetness, it’s refreshing.

The yield turned out to be average, especially compared to the similar variety Nochnaya Svecha (Night Candle). But the bush of Lyuba’s Heart is thinner and more slender.

It looks very bright and beautiful in the greenhouse, and it will be a true decoration on the dining table.

Serdtse Lyuby. I grew this wonderful variety again! One of the bushes grew in a greenhouse, pruned to 2 stems, at my neighbor’s place—Granny Lyuba—and it did not disappoint! A powerful bush (I even had to tie it up to the ceiling), completely hung with beautiful, absolutely delicious hearts of various sizes, from small to large.

Hello. How does this variety compare to “Liskin Nos” (Fox Nose)?

Both are great and both are similar; if they differ, it’s only in some minor nuances. I didn’t grow Liskin Nos this year.

I grew the variety again. In 2022 it showed an average yield, but in 2024 it was excellent. It grew in a sunny spot.

Like all yellow-fruited varieties are to me, it’s a bit bland on its own, but in a salad with red tomatoes, it makes a great companion. It’s both beautiful and tasty. The flesh is quite dense and moderately juicy.

A real handsome one.

I grew it in open ground (outdoors), but it’s better to grow it in a greenhouse. The flesh is dense and sweet. There are very few seeds in the fruits.
