Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 3-4)

Planted this in the greenhouse in 2015. Really liked it! It’s definitely on my grow list for 2016. Not a tall plant, fruits are medium-sized (haven’t weighed them yet, just got my greenhouse going this first year). The color is a vibrant orange 🙂

I’ve been growing this for about 6 years using seeds from Aelita-Agro. Mine are oval, plum-shaped fruits weighing around 3.5-4.2 oz (100-120 g). The flavor has a slight tang to it, but it’s very pleasant. The tomatoes are firm and do great outside. The plant only gets about 16-20 inches (40-50 cm) tall.
Great for both fresh eating and canning. Pretty solid yields too. You can actually plant them tighter together than other varieties because the branches are very thin and the leaves have a delicate, weeping, wispy look to them.
I absolutely loved it and plan to grow it again.
Really loved this little tomato. Grew it outside. Despite a super rainy and cool first half of the summer, it set a ton of fruit. It didn’t drop a single blossom. The tomatoes are smooth, shaped like plum-hearts, with absolutely no cracking and a nice sweetness to the flavor. The fruits weighed in at 5.3-7 oz (150-200 g). Just a solid little workhorse tomato.
Full Summary: Honey Heart
- 🌿 Plant & Foliage: A compact determinate variety that stays very short, usually capping out around 16-20 inches (40-50 cm). It features delicate, thin branches with wispy, weeping foliage, which allows for tighter plant spacing in the garden.
- 🍅 Fruit & Shape: Produces vibrant yellow-orange tomatoes that range from an oval-plum shape to an elongated heart. Size can vary drastically depending on growing conditions and pruning, usually falling between 2.5 oz and 8.8 oz (70-250 g). The skin is smooth and highly resistant to cracking.
- 📈 Yield & Health: An excellent workhorse variety that performs reliably in the open ground, even powering through cool, rainy weather without suffering from blossom drop. Heavy yielder for its compact size.
- 👅 Taste: Consistently rated as one of the sweetest early outdoor varieties, though some growers note a pleasant, mild tang. Firm texture makes it versatile for both fresh eating and processing. Responsive to potassium feeds (like wood ash) to boost sugar levels and fruit size.
