🍅 Quick take: A mid-season, potato-leaf indeterminate producing cream-colored, 7 oz (200 g) fruits with a sweet, fruity flavor. Highly praised for taste but notorious for its extremely short shelf life. Full summary ↓
Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 4)
Indet, not super vigorous, light-colored foliage, potato leaf, mid-season. Fruits are no more than 7 oz (200 g), creamy colored, almost translucent, and get a pink blush on the crown when overripe. Juicy, thin-skinned, sweet, but has absolutely zero shelf life: it turns to mush and rots instantly. Prone to cracking, low yield. I really liked the taste, but I won’t be growing it again anytime soon simply because it spoils and gets leaky so fast 🙃

Wow, mine was incredibly productive this year 🙌. The flavor wasn’t really sweet though, more of a classic tomato taste with a little tang. They didn’t keep very well either, but they didn’t get leaky or crack, maybe because we had a massive heatwave practically all summer long 🤷♀️.

I really liked Mikado White for its yield and excellent fruit flavor. In the greenhouse, it grew tall, about 6.5 feet (2 m), and was mid-season. The fruits were medium-sized, oblate, and cream-colored. Very tasty, juicy, and sweet with a fruity aftertaste. Potato leaf type foliage.

Full Summary: Mikado White
- 🌿 Plant & Foliage: An indeterminate mid-season variety that reaches up to 6.5 feet (2 m) tall in a greenhouse. It features distinct potato-leaf, light-green foliage and grows with moderate vigor.
- 🍅 Fruit & Shape: Produces medium-sized, oblate (flattened globe) tomatoes maxing out around 7 oz (200 g). The skin is thin, and the flesh is a pale, translucent cream color that develops a pinkish blush on the blossom end when fully ripe or overripe.
- 📈 Yield & Health: Yield reports are mixed; some growers experienced low production while others had heavy harvests, especially during hot summers. Its biggest drawback is a notorious lack of shelf life: fruits are prone to cracking and turn to mush rapidly after picking.
- 👅 Taste: Widely praised for its flavor. Typically sweet, juicy, and fruity, though intense heatwaves can shift the profile toward a more classic, slightly tangy tomato taste.
