Largo de Jauja.
Originates from Spain.
This variety belongs to the classic paste tomato family. Long red plums, getting up to 7 oz (200 g). Juicy, sweet, mostly solid meat with practically no seeds and very little gel. I absolutely love this kind of meaty texture. Plus, it keeps really well on the kitchen counter.

Right up there with Abbatista and Ray’s Argentine Paste as one of my all-time favorite paste tomatoes.

Heavy yields, great taste, holds up well if you need to travel with them, and you can use them for just about anything. All that makes this variety a must-grow for any tomato lover.
It’s a mid-season, compact indeterminate vine.

Long fruits with an uneven, bumpy thickness, running about 3.5-7 oz (100-200 g). Very few seeds. Set fruit all the way up the vine, definitely a heavy producer.

Grew this one in a crowded row where it only got average sunlight. Started showing signs of yellow shoulders early on, so I hit it with some potassium right away.

👨‍🌾 Editor’s Note: The Meaning of “Largo de Jauja”
While Valery notes this variety comes from Spain, its name has deep South American roots. In Spanish, Largo means “long.” Jauja is a city in Peru, historically the first capital founded by the Spanish conquistadors. Over time, the phrase “País de Jauja” became a popular Spanish idiom for a mythical land of abundance and extreme wealth—a veritable El Dorado. Given the massive yields and rich, meaty fruits this variety produces, “The Long One from the Land of Plenty” is a perfectly fitting name!
