Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zone 4 Experience)
Bred by N.V. Zhegalin.
Here is his description:
Indeterminate vine, reaches up to 6.5 ft (2 m) in a greenhouse. Potato leaf. The fruits are round, uniform bicolors weighing 7-10.5 oz (200-300 g). The base color is a greenish-amber covered in pinkish-red spots. Inside, the flesh is olive-green with pinkish-red marbling, tender, juicy, and has a very good sweet flavor with a strong fruity aroma and finish. Yields well both in the greenhouse and outdoors. Since this is a new breeding line, you might see some segregation.
I got my seeds straight from the breeder. The plant did not segregate for me and threw an excellent yield in the greenhouse. I completely agree with the breeder’s description.

Full Summary: Plant Habit, Genetics, and Taste Profile
- 🌿 Plant & Foliage: Indeterminate, potato leaf (PL). Can easily reach 6.5 ft (2 m) in a greenhouse setting. Performs well indoors and out in the open garden.
- 🧬 Genetics: Developed by independent Russian breeder N.V. Zhegalin. As a relatively new release, the breeder noted that some minor genetic segregation might still occur, though growers are reporting stable, true-to-type results so far.
- 🍅 Fruit: Very uniform, round bicolors weighing in the 7-10.5 oz (200-300 g) range. The exterior is a stunning mix of amber/green with heavy pink and red blushing. The interior is equally striking with olive-green flesh marbled with red.
- 👅 Taste: Exhibits the classic complex flavor profile of top-tier bicolors. Described as tender, exceptionally juicy, and very sweet, with a distinct fruity aroma that lingers on the finish.
You might be wondering about the name Mordovian Blush. Mordovia (officially the Republic of Mordovia) is a region located in the Volga basin of central Russia, USDA 3/4, known for its rich agricultural lands and distinct cultural heritage. In the Russian tomato world, naming a variety after a specific republic, region, or city (like Minusinsk, Syzran, or Mordovia) is a proud tradition, paying homage to the area’s fertile soils and the local breeders’ dedication to heirloom genetics.
