Quick Summary of Black and Brown Boar
- 🌍 Origin: A famous American variety developed by Brad Gates (Wild Boar Farms). In Russia, it circulates under the translated name Cherno-Korichnevyi Kaban. It is fascinating to see how this California native performs in the harsh climates of Russia and Siberia!
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Tall indeterminate, reaching up to 2 meters (6.5 ft) in a greenhouse. The bush is strong, vigorous, and noted for being highly disease-resistant. Regular leaf foliage.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Small to medium-sized round fruits. The color is stunning: a dark brownish-red/mahogany base covered with metallic green and metallic bronze stripes.
- 👅 Flavor & Texture: Absolutely top-tier. Growers describe the flesh as tender, juicy, and very sweet with almost zero acidity. It consistently wins taste tests against other striped varieties. Best used for fresh eating and salads.
- ⏳ Maturity: Mid-season.
Indeterminate, truss-fruiting, mid-season. Regular leaf. The fruits are not large, brown with green stripes/streaks, tasty and beautiful.
I grew it in the greenhouse 2 years ago. I was going to repeat it this year, but the seeds refused to sprout.
I only have these photos, couldn’t find any of it on the bush (and no new ones expected anytime soon).
Whoever grew the Boar, please add photos. There must be some in the albums.

If I manage to grow it, I will gladly share seeds in the autumn. My seeds are from our forum member Anechka (thanks to her once again). I was only planning to plant it outdoors in open ground, should I shuffle things around and put it in the greenhouse?
Galina, thank you, I actually still have some seeds left, even the original ones from Popenko. I remembered about them when it was already too late to resow. For some unknown reason, several varieties didn’t sprout for me this year, not just the Black and Brown Boar.
In your area, you can probably grow it outdoors in open ground. In our climate, people mostly grow determinates outdoors, it is “unprofitable” to grow indeterminates outside.
Here is how mine grew:

Girls, how is it in terms of yield and taste, and can it be put into a jar for canning?

An awesome little tomato, one of my absolute favorites this year… Very tasty, I kept hunting for it and picking it out of salads first 😉
Olya, describe what the Boar tastes like.

Olya, it is sweet, with absolutely no acidity at all. 😋
A beautiful and tasty variety. In the greenhouse, the bush was almost 2 meters (6.5 ft) tall, mid-season ripening. The fruits are medium-sized, red-brown with stripes. Very tasty, sweet, and tender.
