Quick Summary of Chendler (Chandler)

  • 🌍 Origin: A collectible variety popularized by the famous Eastern European tomato collector A. Kulik.
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall), but can remain relatively compact depending on growing conditions. When grown outdoors in open ground, it reached about 1.1 meters (approx. 3.6 feet). Noted for being low-maintenance and highly disease-resistant, with partial immunity to some viruses.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, dense, round-heart-shaped beefsteaks. They have a fantastic commercial appearance: uniform, blemish-free, and lacking green shoulders at the stem. Fruits are massive, consistently weighing 600-800 grams (21-28 oz). Highly transportable.
  • 👅 Flavor & Culinary Use: A classic “old-fashioned” tomato flavor rather than a sweet one. Because of its dense meatiness and size, it is highly recommended for making rich tomato juice.
  • Maturity: Mid-season.

A mid-season indeterminate variety, in open ground it grew to a height of 1.1 meters (3.6 ft). The variety is low-maintenance and disease-resistant. The fruits are round-heart-shaped, of good quality, dense, and large; mine were up to 600 grams (21 oz). The taste is regular tomato, without sweetness. It will be great for tomato juice.

Oh! Another candidate for the juice collection 😋 And a nice big one, too 👍

Yes, all the fruits on Chandler were very large.

I will add the variety description from A. Kulik’s Catalog:

“Fruits 600-800 g (21-28 oz), without a green spot at the stem, uniform, dense, without blemishes. Excellent taste. Disease resistant, partial immunity to viruses. Ideal for the market – excellent commercial appearance and transportability.”
