📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Amerikanskoe Vytyanutoe Serdtse (American Elongated Heart)
- 🌍 Origin & The Naming Mystery: This is where international tomato collecting gets tricky! In Russia, two very similar names circulate: Amerikanskiy Vytyanutyi (American Elongated) and Amerikanskoe Vytyanutoe Serdtse (American Elongated Heart). Many suspect it is the exact same North American heirloom that suffered from “double translation” when seeds were imported to Russia. However, some growers note slight differences in fruit shape.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Like many classic oxhearts, the plant has a somewhat frail, wispy, or “weeping” structure (very similar to varieties like Wolford Wonder or African Vining).
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Beautiful pink oxhearts. They are distinctly elongated, some with a sharp tip and others with a blunt end (“chubby hearts”). Average weight is around 250-300g (9-10.5 oz).
- 👅 Flavor & Yield: Excellent, sweet, and meaty oxheart flavor. The yield can be somewhat hit-or-miss depending on the climate and whether it is grown in a greenhouse or outdoors.
Yield – below average (you can tell from the photo).

Is the one on top also the same variety? 😘

Wait, aren’t these different varieties?
American Elongated and American Elongated Heart?
American Elongated grew in my poly hoop house. I reeeeally liked the variety. The bush structure is very similar to Wolford Wonder and African Vining. But the fruits are larger. It’s staying on my permanent grow list.
For some reason, I couldn’t find any information online for “American Elongated Heart” 🤷♀️ Only American Elongated (Amerikanskiy Vytyanutyi).

And that is exactly why, Svetulya and Galochka, I posted my review here in this thread.
Because if you create a new thread, the moderators will just merge it into this one anyway.
There are already so many varieties suffering from double translation mix-ups!!!
The fruit shapes are different.
I grew American Elongated in 2016 – seeds from Popenko (his description: Seeds obtained from Canada. Indet. Fruits have a beautiful elongated heart shape, pink, excellent taste, weighing up to 300 g, all-purpose use).
My tomatoes were all “chubby” plump hearts.
As for American Elongated Heart, I grew it in 2015 from seeds from our forum member PanIrina.
The fruit shape is different.
Both for me and for Anela, the fruits of this specific strain have a blunt blossom end (tip).

Tasty, sweet, productive. Sowed them early, and transplanted early into the greenhouse. Long fruiting period. Excellent yield.

Seeds from Galina P., I also liked the variety very much! A good, productive, heart-shaped, pink-fruited variety with good flavor! Grew in the greenhouse, pruned to 2 stems.

Galina, hello. Is there a fundamental difference between American Elongated and Wolford Wonder, and how does the variety Konus (Cone) differ from them?
