📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Purple Pear Brandywine
- 🌍 Origin: A fantastic dark pear/plum variation in the famous Brandywine family. Known for combining the legendary Brandywine flavor with a unique shape.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Very robust and vigorous, usually grown to 2 stems in the greenhouse.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Dark raspberry/purple pear-shaped fruits. Sizes can vary, but generally range from 5-12 oz (150-350g). The flesh is incredibly dense, meaty, and almost completely seedless.
- 👅 Flavor: Universally praised by growers as being one of the sweetest, most delicious, and aromatic dark tomatoes they grow. “Pure sweet meat.”
- ⏳ Yield & Growing Traits: An incredibly heavy yielder that sets a “solid wall of fruit” even when the weather is cold or uncooperative. Depending on the spring weather, it can sometimes lean toward being a late-season ripener.
A tall indeterminate, very prolific, and delicious variety. The seeds were originally from V. Redko (from Canada). The claimed weight was 7-12 oz (200-350 grams). For me, the fruits turned out a bit smaller. On the lower trusses, they were 5-6 oz (150-170 grams). Out of all the varieties I planted this year, this one was the absolute sweetest and tastiest. The color of the tomatoes is dark raspberry/purple.

Purple Pear Brandywine…
Irina, thank you so much for this variety! It really is a heavy yielder and incredibly tasty! It’s just pure sweet meat with almost no seeds, weights up to 9 oz (250g). It turned out to be a bit of a late ripener for me, but everything was delayed this year because of the cold May. Indet, grew in the greenhouse pruned to 2 stems.
An extremely prolific variety. It throws a solid wall of fruit, completely ignoring any crazy weather tantrums.
The flesh is tender, thick, and aromatic; very delicious! 👍
