Green Tiger Tomato Review & Photos

Share your rating
🍅 Quick take: Green Tiger is an indeterminate, mid-season elongated cherry tomato bred by Fred Hempel (Artisan Seeds). It produces small, beautiful bronze-green striped fruits on characteristically thin, wispy vines. Growers note that it has a decent, balanced flavor and a thick skin that makes it excellent for storage and canning, though some find it less sweet than its sister variety, Blush. Yields outdoors have received mixed reviews. Full summary ↓

Seeds from Dukhov (Ukraine).
Vine description: mid-late variety, a bit wispy and wimpy, regular leaf but droopy.
Fruit set: didn’t drop a single blossom.
Height outdoors by August 13: about 4 ft (1.2 m), still producing.
Trusses: 2-4 fruits each.
Overall yield: low.
Fruit: elongated plum, bronze with wavy green stripes, very unique.
Ripe fruit firmness: medium.
Flavor: balanced, but a bit mealy/cottony to me, sweetness is a solid B+.

First impression: a pretty tomato for canning. Cons are the unimpressive short plant (even though it’s listed as an indet) and low yield. Seedling grade: C-, plant: C, fruit: B, overall variety grade: B-.

Green Tiger. Indeterminate mid-season variety. Thin vine. Fruits are little green plums with dark green stripes. Flavor is good, but the skin is a bit thick. Grew it outdoors, good yield. The little tomatoes store pretty well. Seeds from T. Kushnareva.

Green Tiger and Blush. They’re practically brothers. Blush definitely turns out sweeter for me, though.

👨‍🌾 Editor’s Note: Green Tiger & Blush
TatianaSh mentions that Green Tiger and Blush are “practically brothers.” She is absolutely right—both are elongated julienne cherry varieties bred and released by Fred Hempel of Artisan Seeds (California). They share the same wispy foliage and striped appearance, just in different colors!
