Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zone 3 Experience)
A tomato variety from the pear-shaped, “pleated pouch” category. Despite the rather exotic name, it left only positive impressions. This variety was a success by practically every metric. Pretty early, sets trusses despite crazy weather. I practically didn’t see any blossom drop on my end. Yield was one of the best of the season, even though the fruits aren’t massive (but they aren’t tiny either). Around 3.5-7 oz (100-200 g).
Strong, vigorous vine, got to about 6.5 ft (2 m) in the greenhouse. Flavor-wise, it might lose out to a fresh slicing beefsteak. But it has undeniable advantages when it comes to transport and storage (it’s a great keeper at room temp, lasts a month or more). Great for sun-drying. I can honestly call this variety the absolute find of the season.
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste, and Processing
- 🌿 Plant: A highly vigorous, early-season indeterminate vine that easily reaches 6.5 ft (2 m) in a greenhouse setting. Notably tough and resilient, shrugging off weather fluctuations with zero blossom drop.
- 📈 Yield: Extremely heavy yielder, considered a top performer of the season by growers. The fruits are medium-sized, pleated pear shapes weighing between 3.5 and 7 oz (100-200 g).
- 👅 Taste & Processing: The flavor is decent but mild compared to slicing beefsteaks. However, its true value lies in its dense, meaty texture, making it phenomenal for sun-drying and processing.
- 📦 Storage: An outstanding keeper. The thick walls and firm structure allow these tomatoes to store flawlessly at room temperature for over a month, and they hold up perfectly during transport.
- 🌎 Who Reviewed It: One grower in USDA Zone 3 (Northern Russia), growing in a greenhouse.
