Growers’ Notes and Photos
Giganta Zenta Semi. Origin: Italy.
Indeterminate, large red fruits weighing 10.5-17.5 oz (300-500 g), very tasty and meaty (description from V. Red’ko).
Grew this in the greenhouse. Well-balanced, real tomato flavor. Yields were better than good. My biggest highlight of 2016.

Lena! Is the vine massive? Takes up a lot of room? Is it a late producer? Looks gorgeous sliced open 👍
Pruned it to two leaders. The vine is tall but not too dense, well-proportioned, doesn’t tend to put on too much foliage. I had them spaced 20 inches (50 cm) apart, which was plenty. Mid-season, long harvest window.
Definitely requires solid support. I struggled to figure out how to tie it up to help it hold all those heavy trusses. The spot at the stem end is shallow and small. Cracking is minor. The flavor is a proper, real tomato taste (no fruity notes).
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Support
- 🌿 Plant: Indeterminate, mid-season (though Ovechka found it a bit late). Tall but not overly dense or leafy. Spacing them 20 inches (50 cm) apart worked well for Lena 18. Fruits are heavy, reaching 10.5-17.5 oz (300-500 g).
- 📈 Yield: Heavy, with a long harvest window. Needs excellent support because the trusses get very heavy.
- 👅 Taste: Proper, old-fashioned tomato flavor. Very meaty and well-balanced, completely lacking fruity notes.
