🍅 Quick take: Moneymaker is a classic indeterminate, mid-season English heirloom (introduced by F. Stonor of Southampton around 1913) known for heavy trusses of uniform, medium-sized red tomatoes. Growers praise its hybrid-like reliability, strong disease and weather resistance, and balanced sweet-tangy flavor that works equally well for fresh slicing and whole-fruit pickling. Full summary ↓
Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zone 6 & Greenhouse Experience)
Tough plant, rarely gets sick, and sets fruit really well. Picture-perfect standard-sized tomatoes. With how heavy it produces and how uniform the fruit are, it looks just like a commercial hybrid, except it’s actually sweet and juicy. Great both for fresh eating and for pickling whole*.
Pretty solid variety. Performed really well in my polycarbonate greenhouse. Tall vine, I trained it to two leaders. Medium-sized fruit with a bold tomato flavor and a nice tang. Good disease resistance too. Started seeds for it again this year.
