📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Babushkin Med (Grandma’s Honey)
- 🌍 Origin: A Russian collector variety bred by Angelina (Domashniy Pomidor). The name translates to “Grandma’s Honey”.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate and vigorous. There is some minor variation in leaf type among growers (some report standard Regular Leaf, others mention oversized foliage or even Potato Leaf segregations), but the true strain is typically Regular Leaf (RL). Does well when pruned to two stems in a greenhouse.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, plump, pinkish-raspberry oxhearts. They are very dense, with small seed cavities and few seeds.
- 👅 Flavor: Intensely sweet with practically zero acidity, yet retains a rich, authentic tomato flavor without being bland.
- ⏳ Maturity: Mid-late season. A reliable plant that sets trusses through both cold snaps and extreme heat waves.
A very tasty variety. It is extremely sweet, practically no acid, but at the same time, it’s not bland or cloying. An all-meat tomato. During our wild summer heat in the greenhouse, it wasn’t my highest yielder, but based on how heavily it flowered, the potential is definitely there. The bush is vigorous.
I really liked this variety.
Greenhouse real estate is at a premium for me, but I will definitely be repeating this tasty, large-fruited variety next year.
What kind of foliage does it have?

Interesting, I wonder what’s growing for me then? I just sowed seeds today from a different source.
What kind of leaf does it have? Out of 5 seeds for me, 2 came up with regular leaves (RL), and 3 came up with potato leaves (PL). I planted both out.
My seeds are from Angelina. The leaf isn’t exactly a true potato leaf, but it’s definitely noticeably broader than a standard regular leaf.
The discovery of the year for me. Large, tasty, and productive. Grew it in the greenhouse. Will absolutely grow it again. Thanks, Svetikk!
