Bezrazmernyi (Limitless / Boundless) Siberian Tomato Review

My seeds came from Ira (St. Petersburg). The Sibsad seed company thinks this variety should look like their description—shaped like a jar (yeah right, a 3-liter jar 😂). However, for me and many others who grew it, it turned out completely different.

For me, it looked like this (and the upper trusses turned out striped like a watermelon). Despite the fact that it was not the shape claimed by the breeder, I really loved it.

Indeterminate, pink, large-fruited, very tasty, and early (it was in the top 10 earliest varieties to ripen for me). The only bummer was some weird crud on the leaves (I never figured out what disease it was), but it didn’t affect the taste or size of the tomatoes at all.

Like many Sibsad varieties, it stalled after the first wave of harvest. But then, after a series of feedings, it exploded for a second round, put out new trusses, and managed to size up some very large fruits. In the photos, the striped ones are the late September harvest.

Olya, at least yours were uniform. I bought commercial packets before and gave them to friends. Out of 6 bushes, I got 4 entirely different varieties. A colleague planted about 20 of them, and she ended up with 2 bushes that were clearly Malakhitovaya Shkatulka (Malachite Box)!

Galochka, my seeds were from a collector (Ira), and I trust her, unlike the Sibsad commercial packets. I grew 4 plants, and they were all absolutely identical 👍.

So what are we supposed to do? The picture shows one thing, the actual fruits are completely different. Is it like this for everyone?? 😳

I planted two bushes from a commercial packet. They grew to be an exact 1-to-1 copy of Shuntukskiy Velikan (Shuntuk Giant). 😞

I had one bush. Indeterminate, good fruit set. Late season. The fruit shape was close to a sphere, some slightly elongated, with light ribbing. Compared to the photo on the packet—it’s just a round ball.

I didn’t like the taste. The fruits were somewhat hollow inside in places, and you could clearly feel a tough internal “frame/core.” But honestly, nobody knows who actually has the “true” Bezrazmernyi anymore. Or if the true one even exists in nature…

I bought a packet back in the day, hoping to grow a tomato the size of a jar… Yeah, right. After 3 years of trials, my verdict is: IT’S NOT THE ONE.

We grew it in 2012. Of course, it looks nothing like what Sibsad describes (a 3-liter jar). The largest one in the photo grew from a megabloom (fused blossom). The biggest fruits actually grew outdoors; the ones in the greenhouse were smaller.

The bushes themselves are tall, with lots of fruit set. Taste: juicy, meaty, slightly tart. Not a lot of seeds. I’d rate it a 4 out of 5.

My strain came from Ukraine. Just looking at it, I realized the name “Bezrazmernyi ” isn’t about the fruit size, it’s about the height of the bush! 😂 In my open ground bed, it towers almost a full meter (3 ft) above all the other plants, setting fruit all the way to the crown.

My tomatoes average around 250-400g (9-14 oz). Highly productive. I liked the taste.

I also grew Bezrazmernyi this year 👍. Of course, it didn’t grow into the fantasy shape pictured on the packet 😂, but it’s a very worthy variety! Mine grew in the greenhouse and was somewhat late-season. It shot up to the greenhouse roof (about 2.5 meters / 8 ft tall).

The entire harvest went straight into tomato juice. I liked it, will definitely plant it again from my saved seeds.

For me this year, it’s the best-tasting variety so far. The largest fruit was 525g (1.1 lbs), and the rest were around 300g (10.5 oz). I got 4.5 kg (10 lbs) total per plant. Grown outdoors in open ground.

Very juicy, perfectly balanced flavor, absolutely loved it. The first fruit was round, the rest were more oblate (flat). The bush wasn’t very tall, but it collapsed under the sheer weight of the tomatoes.

You guys got lucky, I can’t wait to share my “success” with this tomato (I hope you’re all sitting down!).

I grew it in 2015, which was a terrible weather year, so I planted this new variety in the greenhouse. It truly was “Bezrazmernyi “—it grew as big as a Baobab tree! Insanely thick branches, humongous leaves (I had to chop them in half, leaving only 30 cm / 12 inches of leaf). The trusses matched the plant 😲, reaching up to 40 cm (16 inches) long… and on these massive trees, it set a bunch of ugly, gnarled tomatoes the size of a quarter!

But that’s not all. Apparently, the breeders decided to surprise us completely: suckers on this mutant grew out of everywhere! If you left a stump in the leaf axil, it would explode into a whole new bush. I’m used to suckers growing out of the flower trusses, that happens. But this thing literally grew suckers directly on the leaf blades! (Not where the leaf attaches to the stem, but right in the middle of the actual leaf surface 😲). An absolute horror movie! 😝

Natasha, your plant was just experiencing excessive vegetative growth (nitrogen toxicity / over-fertilization). I grow 2-3 bushes of it every year from highly reliable seeds, and it’s fine.

Olya, there was no reason for it to suffer from excessive vegetative vigor! That year, I gave them absolutely zero organics—just wood ash and superphosphate. I was working so much I only came home to sleep 😞, barely had time to strip the foliage. I had other varieties growing right next to it, and none of them turned into such monsters.

2015 was a very wet and cold year; I only watered them once at planting and that was it. I’d love to try the variety again, but out of sheer frustration, I threw the seed packet in the trash, so I can’t even check the batch number. 🤷‍♀️
