📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR)
- 🌍 Origin: A dark heirloom variety originating from the USA.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate, but generally medium-tall (semi-determinate behavior in some conditions). It shows great disease resistance and continues to grow and produce late into the season.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Dark (purple/black) beefsteaks. The texture is dense, sugary, and very meaty. Standout feature: Unlike many dark heirlooms that go soft quickly, growers report that these have an excellent shelf life and store very well after picking!
- 👅 Flavor: The majority of growers rate it as incredibly tasty, juicy, and sugary/sweet, though as with many heirlooms, experiences can vary based on soil and climate.
- ⏳ Yield & Climate: Highly productive with a very long harvest window. In a greenhouse, it can produce non-stop from mid-summer right up until the mid-October frosts. It also shows excellent resistance to fruit cracking.
I couldn’t find this variety in the catalog, so maybe someone will be interested, especially lovers of dark tomatoes.
Variety: Blue Sky (USA). The seeds are from Andrey Shcherbakov.
The variety is of medium height. The fruits are dense, sugary, tasty, and they store very well (good shelf life). I had two massive fruits on the bush, and the rest were smaller. Grown in a greenhouse.
Anya, THANK YOU! I have it in my grow plans for this year 😉.
Elena, be sure to write back later and let us know how it turned out for you. 🙏🌺
And how did it do this year?
How did this variety perform for everyone???
Cute… looks like a beetle 😆
Here is what my Blue Sky looked like — honestly, nothing really stood out to me about it.

I planted it in 2014 and will definitely grow it again. I grew 5 dark varieties, and Blue Sky was the tastiest and most productive of them all. All three bushes did great. It was quite juicy, didn’t crack, and started ripening on July 15th and went right through to mid-October without a break.
And the color, when there wasn’t extreme heat, was mesmerizing (desert sand + azure blue). It didn’t get sick at all. In the autumn, for some reason, little stripes appeared on the fruits.
