📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Bull Sac
- 🌍 Origin: A giant red paste/oxheart variety circulating among heirloom collectors.
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate and very tall, easily reaching 6.5–7 ft (2–2.2 m). It is a mid-early variety that shows fantastic productivity both outdoors and in the greenhouse.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Massive, bright red tomatoes. While some vendor descriptions claim they can be elongated (“cucumber-shaped”), growers mostly report huge blocky and heart shapes with slight ribbing. Weights range from 10.5 to 21 oz (300–600 g). Pro Tip: It can be prone to yellow shoulders and hard white cores if grown in an excessively hot, intense full-sun spot in a greenhouse.
- 👅 Flavor & Utility: A true processing powerhouse. The flesh is incredibly dense, meaty, and low on juice, with a sweet and aromatic flavor. It is the ultimate variety for making thick sauces, ketchup, and paste.
Got my seeds from V. Redko, first time growing this one. It’s a tall indet, reached about 6.5–7 ft (2–2.2 m) for me. Mid-early maturity. I grew two plants—one in the greenhouse and one outdoors in open ground. Yields were absolutely fantastic in both spots.
The seed listing said they’d look like cucumbers or ribbed hearts. I didn’t get a single “cucumber” shape out of them. Mine were all massive, weighing 10.5–21 oz (300–600 g), throwing blocky and heart shapes with slight ribbing. Bright red and just gorgeous.
Flesh is super meaty, aromatic, and sweet, with very little juice. Honestly, it’s a perfect paste tomato—ideal for thick sauce, ketchup, and canning.
One thing to note: my greenhouse plant was in the absolute sunniest spot. It set fruit beautifully, but a lot of those tomatoes ended up with hard yellow shoulders and white internal tissue, which really messed with the flavor. The plant I grew outdoors had zero issues with shoulders or white cores.
