📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Bunte Pflaume
- 🌍 Origin: A German heirloom variety whose name translates to “Colorful Plum” or “Variegated Plum”. Widely circulated among Russian collectors (such as V. Popenko).
- 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate. Height varies depending on growing conditions: reaches about 180 cm (6 ft) in a greenhouse, but stays a more compact 1 m (3.3 ft) when grown outdoors in open ground. Shows good overall disease resistance.
- 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: A beautiful Green-When-Ripe (GWR) bicolor with red/pink blushing. Growers note that the fruit shape can vary significantly even on the same plant, producing both oblate (flattened-round) and heart-shaped tomatoes.
- 👅 Flavor: Sweet, juicy, and fairly firm. Very highly rated for its taste.
- ⏳ Yield: Generally rated as good to average, though some growers in hotter southern climates report lower yields.
Seeds from Popenko. A beautiful green-when-ripe (GWR) bicolor. Shape – I had both oblate and heart-shaped ones. Taste – I liked it, juicy, sweet, quite firm. Good health, resisted all the diseases I had in the greenhouse this season. Height – about 180 cm (6 ft), indeterminate. Yield – good. Pruned to a single main stem. A real beauty.

Holy cow! Very beautiful, Svet, but how about the taste?

I meant, are the ones from the bottom trusses and the top trusses equally tasty?
And Svetochka gifted her extra seedling to me! 💃 💃 💃 My reviews on the variety are exactly the same, except I trained it to 2 stems – also did well. (Svetochka – thaaank youuu! 😘)

Svetochka, thank you for the seeds!!! 😘 Here is what grew for me. I kept it on the vine for seeds, it cracked, so I pulled it off the bush, and now I’m tormented by doubts—is it ready or not??? This is my first time dealing with GWR tomatoes…
Lyud, give it a gentle squeeze/feel, you’ll know right away. By the looks of it, it’s ready.
We ate it today, very tasty! I’ll grab another one for seeds.

Love, love this variety. Beautiful, sweet tomato + the bushes out in the garden (open ground) were 1 m (3.3 ft) tall.
Does it look like Krasnaya Mishen (Red Target)?

Beautiful, tasty, but the yield was low for me.
