Growers’ Notes and Photos (USDA Zones 4-8 Experience)
Tall vine (in the greenhouse), average foliage. Tomatoes are round, orange-red, meaty, tasty, and uniformly large, about 10.5-14.1 oz (300-400 g) each. Crack resistant, mid-season ripening. Ripened completely on the vine up here in the Northwest, no green shoulders and no hard cores. Pretty solid yield.

Seed Strain Discussion
Can any of you knowledgeable folks tell me if this Delicious and “Deliciosus” are different varieties? Because the name Deliciosus really just looks like the Russian phonetic reading of Delicious.
Katya, it’s the exact same thing, but different seed sources sometimes result in different tomatoes. It’s just easier for me to pronounce it Delicious.
Our own Lena sent me the seeds. Like I mentioned before, I only got two scrawny little vines, they didn’t produce much and the fruits didn’t reach the stated size, but they definitely looked like a true Delicious and I loved the taste. Planning to give it proper care next year, plus I’ll be using my own saved seeds.
Thanks, Galya! Guess I’ll just merge the reviews for both in my head from now on. Seems like pretty much everybody likes this tomato.
😄 Our lovely Tomatanya was kind enough to share seeds of this variety with me. Loved the taste and the massive fruit size. The only hassle was having to add extra support for the trusses. It was early for me, but kept really well in storage.
I got a variety called Deliciosus from Ukraine last year, absolutely loved it, incredibly tasty, but its description differs from Delicious, here’s what it says:
Mid-season indeterminate variety. Growing season – 120-130 days. Round fruits, cherry-colored, weighing up to 3.5 lbs (1600 g). Vine height up to 8.2 ft (2.5 m). Heat and light loving plant. Start from seedlings or direct sow. Transplant at 50-60 days old. Requires light, fertile soil. Responds well to fertilizers.
Outdoor Growing
Delicious, seeds from Petrov. Tall, wispy foliage, indet variety.
Red, heart-shaped fruits, average yielder.
Delicious (USA). Indet. mid-season tomato, up to 6.5 ft (2 m) tall. A total wall of fruit.
Deliciosus (Ukraine). Mid-season, heavy yielder, large-fruited indet. Very tasty.
So, here’s what grew for me this year from Delicious (this is my own saved seed from Lena, and she originally ordered them from a “reputable site”, a phrase of hers I really love). Yield was higher than last year (to be honest, last year’s was pretty crappy, I only repeated it because of the sweet taste). Vines didn’t exactly rush upward.

This variety has its own specific flavor, very different from regular tomatoes.
Some will love it, some won’t.
But it really doesn’t taste like other tomatoes 😄
Deliciosus (Ukraine) – I liked it – very tasty, and even though I’m more of a pink tomato fan, I’ll definitely be planting this one next year.
My Delicious. Seeds from T.F. Panova, 2003. Description from the packet: Delicious – large-fruited variety, 4.2-4.6 ft (1.3-1.4 m) tall, productive. Red fruits, good flavor, few seeds, weight can reach 2.2 lbs (1000 g).
In my greenhouse it grew taller, around 6 ft (1.8 m), one of the flavor favorites of the season 😍 Huge, sweet, tasty 😋 The first couple of fruits had BER, then no problems after that. Loved it. 👍
Full Summary: Plant, Yield, Taste and Storage
- 🌿 Plant: Indeterminate, mid-season, growing anywhere from 6 to 8.2 ft (1.8-2.5 m) tall. Produces massive red beefsteaks, mostly round/flat-round, though one grower noted a heart-shaped variant from a specific seed source. The heavy fruits often require extra support for the trusses. Some seed strains show wispy foliage.
- 📈 Yield: Generally praised as a heavy producer (“a wall of fruit”), though a few growers experienced lower yields depending on the season and seed line.
- 👅 Taste: Consistently rated as excellent. Growers describe the flavor as sweet, meaty, and distinct from average red tomatoes, though one user found it fairly standard. The fruits ripen fully without hard cores or green shoulders.
- 📦 Storage: One grower noted it kept well in storage. Crack resistant, though one grower experienced early-season blossom end rot (BER).
- 🌎 Who Reviewed It: 13 different growers discussed this variety, representing a wide range of climates including USDA Zones 4 and 8.
