Dwarf Loxton Lad. A release from the Dwarf Tomato Project.

For me, it turned out to be one of the earliest ripening dwarfs in my entire garden. The plant topped out around 2.5 ft (0.8 m) tall.

Fruit are medium-sized, oblate, and a beautiful rich orange color. Outstanding flavor, dense, meaty, and sweet. Very high-yielding variety.

Dwarf Loxton Lad was grown under cover in the greenhouse. It stretched taller in there, reaching about 4-4.5 ft (1.2-1.4 m).

Fruit weighed in right around 7 oz (200 g). The flesh was juicy, delightfully buttery, and very delicious.

Full Summary: Plant Habit, Fruit Size & Growing Conditions

  • 🌿 Growth Habit: True tree-type dwarf with thick central stems and dark green rugose foliage. Height varies by setup: remains compact at 2.5 ft (0.8 m) in open beds or 5-gallon containers, but can stretch to 4-4.5 ft (1.2-1.4 m) when grown in rich greenhouse beds with ambient humidity.
  • ⏱️ Maturity & Earliness: Early to mid-season. Stands out as one of the fastest producers among large-fruited orange dwarf varieties.
  • 🍅 Fruit Profile: Smooth, oblate orange slicers typically weighing around 7 oz (200 g). The interior features thick outer walls, small seed cavities, and a meaty core.
  • 👅 Flavor & Texture: Buttery, luscious, and juicy with a balanced sweet profile that lacks harsh acidity, typical of the best low-acid orange heirlooms.
  • 🌎 Proven Environments: Highly productive both in cooler northern greenhouses (USDA Zone 4) and warm southern regions (USDA Zone 6b).
