Dzinovski Paradajz Jabucar (Giant Apple) Tomato Review & Photos

Rate this

📌 Quick Summary (TL;DR): Dzinovski Paradajz Jabucar

  • 🌍 Origin: A well-regarded heirloom from Serbia, sourced from the well-known Serbian breeder Živojin Antić. The name translates roughly to “Giant Apple Tomato” (Paradajz means tomato, Jabucar means apple-type, and Dzinovski means giant).
  • 🌿 Plant Habit: Indeterminate (tall). Very vigorous vines that do exceptionally well in greenhouse conditions. It produces such heavy trusses that extra support is an absolute must to prevent snapping.
  • 🍅 Fruit Characteristics: Large, reliable red beefsteaks. They are exceptionally uniform, crack-resistant, and typically weigh up to 21 oz (600g). A standout feature is its ability to maintain massive fruit size all the way up to the top of the vine.
  • 👅 Flavor & Texture: Dense and meaty with low juice content. The flesh has a buttery texture with very small seed locules. The flavor is rich, sweet, and perfectly balanced.
  • 📈 Yield: A true workhorse. Growers report a long production window and excellent shelf life for an heirloom variety.

Dzinovski Paradajz Jabucar (Serbia).

A variety from Živojin Antić, a well-known Serbian breeder. Fun fact: “Paradajz” in Serbian actually means “tomato”, not paradise 🤣

Huge thanks to Galina (@axleto) for the seeds 🙏

It’s an indet, grew it out in the greenhouse pruned to two leaders. A large, round, red beefsteak—beautiful, uniform, super tasty, and absolutely loaded with fruit! 😍 Weighs up to 21 oz (600g). Tied for 1st place with Jasmina among my favorite Serbian varieties 😘 Just look at that meaty cross-section! 🤤

I absolutely loved this tomato too! Huge, delicious, bright red, dense, and meaty. It’s a real workhorse—produced for a long time, and was one of the very last ones I pulled from the greenhouse at the end of the season.

I don’t really take pics inside the greenhouses anymore; it’s getting a bit too hard on the back to crawl around under the vines 😁 I usually just snap a pic when I’m saving seeds so I don’t forget what the fruit looked like. But this one left such an impression that I saved seeds from it twice, and took pictures both times 😁

Right in my wheelhouse for size! I’m a total sucker for varieties with low juice and dense, meaty flesh. The flavor is intense and sweet.

Every single fruit was massive and delicious. Had to tie up the trusses so they wouldn’t snap off under the weight. The flesh has this amazing buttery texture with tiny seed locules—super meaty, sweet, and just incredibly tasty. The crazy part is the fruits stay huge all the way up the vine. Pro tip: make sure to feed the plant heavily once it sets fruit.

👨‍🌾 Editor’s Agronomy Note:
Lana_s_Kavkaza makes a killer point about feeding. Varieties like Dzinovski Paradajz Jabucar are considered “heavy feeders”. Because they pump out massive fruits and maintain that size all the way to the top of the vine, they draw huge amounts of potassium and phosphorus from the soil. Once the first trusses set fruit, consider side-dressing with a potassium-rich organic fertilizer (like kelp meal, wood ash, or a liquid tomato bloom formula) to keep the plant from running out of gas mid-season!
